The City of Matlosana is taking proactive strides toward a safer and cleaner environment for its residents. This week, the municipality launched a dual-focused effort, combining a critical fire safety awareness campaign with a high-profile community cleaning initiative aimed at revitalizing local neighborhoods.

Community Urged to Prioritize Fire Safety
Following an official alert released on Tuesday, the City of Matlosana Fire and Emergency Services has issued a comprehensive Community Fire Safety Alert. This move comes as part of the municipality’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and the environment from the devastating effects of fire outbreaks.
The alert provides clear protocols for residents during emergencies, emphasizing that individuals should remain calm and notify emergency services immediately rather than attempting to fight large-scale blazes alone. To ensure a rapid response, the municipality has publicized dedicated fire emergency hotlines: 018 462 2222 and 018 464 2222.
Key Safety Reminders for Residents:
Preventative Measures: Turn off electrical appliances when not in use and avoid overloading power sockets.
Hazard Management: Keep all flammable materials away from heat sources.
Preparedness: Familiarize yourself with emergency exits and designated community assembly points.

"Love Your Street" Campaign Gains Ministerial Support
Building on the momentum of public safety, the municipality’s flagship environmental program, the "Love Your Street" Campaign, saw a significant activation today. The event, held along the N12 near KFC in Klerksdorp, featured a collaborative effort between local and national leadership.
Executive Mayor Fikile Mahlophe was joined by Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, to lead the cleaning activities. The campaign is designed to foster a sense of collective responsibility and civic pride, encouraging residents to take ownership of the cleanliness and beauty of their immediate surroundings.
By targeting high-traffic areas like the N12 corridor, the initiative aims to reduce illegal dumping and promote sustainable waste management habits. The presence of national leadership underscores the importance of local government initiatives in achieving broader national development goals, such as those outlined in the NDP 2030.

A Unified Vision for the Future
These combined efforts reflect a holistic approach to governance in Matlosana, where physical safety and environmental health are treated as interconnected priorities. As the municipality continues to deploy its newly acquired service delivery fleet, residents are encouraged to maintain the spirit of the "Love Your Street" campaign throughout the year.
The City of Matlosana reaffirms that while municipal teams are dedicated to service delivery, the long-term success of these programs relies on the active participation and vigilance of every community member.
