Matlosana Celebrates Disability Rights Awareness Month with Dynamic Inclusion Programme

On Thursday, December 4, 2025, the City of Matlosana, in partnership with the Matlosana Community Empowerment Forum (MACEF), successfully hosted a dynamic and vibrant programme to mark Disability Rights Awareness Month. The event served as a powerful platform for celebrating disability inclusion and fostering greater community awareness.

High-Level Attendance and Partnerships


The significance of the event was highlighted by the attendance of key stakeholders from both government and community sectors. The programme was graced by the presence of Mayor, Cllr Fikile Mahlophe, and the LED (Local Economic Development) MMC, Cllr Wesley Kgang.


Crucially, the event saw extensive collaboration, drawing participation from essential governmental and non-governmental bodies, including MACEF, SASSA, the Department of Health, Social Development, the Department of Home Affairs, the National Prosecuting Authority, and Makiti Funerals.

A Celebration of Empowerment and Talent


The programme commenced with an opening address and warm welcome from Mayor Cllr Fikile Mahlophe. The day was a lively celebration of inclusion, featuring a diverse array of activities designed to promote awareness, education, and empowerment within the community.


Key components of the programme included:

  • Demonstrations, Games, and Activities: These interactive elements were aimed at increasing understanding and promoting active participation.

  • Business Workshops: These sessions provided vital knowledge and support for entrepreneurs with disabilities.

  • Art Exhibitions: Artists with disabilities shared their experiences and showcased their talents, enriching the cultural fabric of the event.

A Call for Collective Action


Beyond celebration, the event served as a call to action, imploring all stakeholders, government, private sector, and community members, to unite. The overarching goal is to challenge stereotypes, educate communities, and vigorously promote accessibility across all facets of society.


In the closing remarks, Cllr Wesley Kgang extended sincere gratitude to all who attended and participated. He passionately urged the community to maintain this momentum, continuing to work collaboratively toward creating a society that is truly inclusive, accessible, and equitable for all its residents.
