The City of Matlosana Local Municipality has entered a high-gear phase of its "Accelerated Service Delivery Programme," reporting significant progress in road maintenance and urgent infrastructure repairs this week. Led by the Executive Mayor and Council, the initiative seeks to address long-standing backlogs and improve daily living conditions for residents across several townships and suburbs.
As of early February 2026, the municipality's technical teams have been deployed to various flashpoints to restore essential services and rehabilitate aging infrastructure.

Road Infrastructure and Maintenance Achievements
The Roads Department has successfully completed several key projects aimed at improving traffic flow and pedestrian safety. Following directives from the Executive Mayor, maintenance teams focused on the following areas:
Kanana: The traffic circle kerbs have been thoroughly cleaned to enhance visibility and aesthetic appeal.
Uraniaville: Paving work continues at the intersection of Meteor and Neutron Streets to improve the durability of the industrial hub’s roads.
Flimieda: Residents in Lautz Lane are benefiting from a fresh resurfacing project, extending the lifespan of the local road network.
Jouberton: The entrance to Sunnyside was graded to ensure better accessibility for vehicles entering the residential area.

Emergency Water Supply Updates: Jouberton and Khuma
While roadworks have progressed smoothly, the municipality is simultaneously managing critical water supply challenges. Infrastructure breakdowns have caused temporary disruptions in two major townships:
1. Jouberton Recovery Mechanical breakdowns at local pump stations recently led to low water pressure and total outages in Extensions 1, 2, 13-17, 24, and the Y Block. The municipality confirmed that pumping operations resumed on February 4th, with full system recovery expected to be completed overnight.
2. Khuma Pipe Repair A burst pump-line feeding the Khuma Reservoir has impacted water supply to Extensions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7. Maintenance teams are currently on-site, with an estimated repair completion time of 23:00 tonight.
Looking Ahead: Thuntsha Lerole Phase 5
The intensified maintenance work serves as a precursor to the upcoming Phase 5 of Thuntsha Lerole, scheduled for Friday, 06 February 2026. This provincial government initiative, known for "bringing services to the people", will see various departments and stakeholders converge in Matlosana to provide on-site administrative services, agricultural support, and further infrastructure oversight.

The municipality has thanked residents for their patience during these essential repairs and reiterated its commitment to the "Batho Pele" (People First) principle.
