The City of Matlosana has recently executed a series of targeted interventions aimed at infrastructure restoration, environmental hygiene, and regulatory enforcement. Under the directive of the Executive Mayor and Council, the municipality has deployed multiple departments to address long-standing service delivery needs in both residential townships and the primary economic hub of the Central Business District (CBD). These efforts represent a coordinated approach to improving the living conditions of residents while ensuring that local commerce adheres to national safety standards.

Infrastructure and Sanitation Upgrades in Jouberton and Kanana
On Tuesday, 17 February 2026, the Roads and Community Services Departments launched an extensive maintenance campaign focusing on the areas of Jouberton and Kanana. The Roads Department prioritized transit stability by resurfacing Community Street in Jouberton Extension 22, a move designed to improve traffic flow and vehicle safety. Further work in the extension included the grading of essential taxi routes and a widespread pothole patching initiative to mitigate road degradation.
Simultaneously, teams moved into Kanana to conduct general road maintenance. The intervention was complemented by the Community Services department, which addressed environmental and aesthetic concerns within the township.
Key activities included:
Cemetery Maintenance: Comprehensive cleaning and landscaping of local burial grounds.
Waste Management: The clearing of identified illegal dumping sites to prevent health hazards.
Township Beautification: Systematic litter picking across the township to restore public spaces.

CBD Special Clean-Up and Regulatory Enforcement
Earlier in the week, on Friday, 13 February 2026, the City focused its attention on the Klerksdorp Central Business District (CBD). Led by Mr. Steven Mpato, Assistant Director of Fire and Rescue Services, a multi-disciplinary team conducted a "Special Clean-Up Operation." While the title suggests a focus on sanitation, the primary goal was the enforcement of municipal by-laws and national legislation regarding trade and public safety.
The operation yielded the following results:
High Compliance Rates: The majority of inspected filling stations and retail shops were found to be operating within the legal framework.
Confiscation of Illicit Goods: Law enforcement identified a segment of businesses retailing unlabelled items and illegal cosmetic products. These goods were seized and earmarked for disposal according to health regulations.
Public Safety Focus: The initiative sought to ensure that the CBD remains a safe and orderly environment for the high volume of commuters and visitors who frequent the area daily.

The City of Matlosana has issued a formal advisory to all business owners, reminding them of the necessity to remain compliant with health, safety, and immigration requirements. By combining infrastructure repair in residential sectors with strict by-law enforcement in commercial zones, the municipality aims to foster a culture of accountability and sustained urban development.
