On Friday, 15 August 2025, the City of Matlosana’s law enforcement team, in partnership with the Department of Public Safety, the South African Police Service (SAPS), Security, and Fire & Rescue Services, conducted a joint roadblock operation. The initiative formed part of Women’s Month celebrations and focused on promoting road safety, ensuring compliance with vehicle regulations, and raising awareness on social issues affecting the community.

Promoting Road Safety Through Enforcement
The roadblock was strategically designed to enhance public safety by inspecting vehicle roadworthiness, checking the validity of driver’s licences, and ensuring adherence to road regulations. Officials reported that the most common infringements identified during the operation included expired licence discs and motorists driving without valid licences.
Through such enforcement efforts, the City continues to prioritise safer roads and reduce the risks posed by non-compliance. The roadblock also served as an opportunity to collect municipal revenue linked to traffic fines and outstanding violations.
Celebrating Women in Law Enforcement
In line with Women’s Month, female officers played a leading role in the roadblock operation. They engaged directly with motorists by handing out bottled water, sharing information on road safety, and raising awareness about gender-based violence. These gestures not only strengthened relationships with the public but also highlighted the dedication and professionalism of women in law enforcement.
The emphasis on women-led engagement sent a strong message about empowerment, visibility, and the vital role female officers play in community safety. Motorists were also greeted with Women’s Month well wishes, reinforcing the celebratory and educational tone of the event.

Appreciation for Service
Following the conclusion of the roadblock, Rio Hotel hosted a lunch in honour of female law enforcement officers. The gesture served as recognition of their contributions to public safety and their leadership in carrying forward the spirit of Women’s Month.
Final Remarks
The roadblock operation demonstrated the City of Matlosana’s commitment to both road safety and gender inclusivity. By combining enforcement with awareness, the initiative not only ensured compliance but also fostered dialogue on broader social issues. As Women’s Month continues, the celebration of female officers stands as a reminder of the essential role they play in building safer and more inclusive communities.
