The City of Matlosana Local Municipality is entering a period of significant infrastructure maintenance and professional community engagement. Spanning the week of mid-February 2026, the municipality has scheduled critical water supply interruptions to facilitate reservoir cleaning and pipe maintenance, while simultaneously partnering with national bodies to enhance professional standards within the region.

Critical Water Infrastructure Maintenance in Kanana and Klerksdorp
The municipality has issued formal notices regarding two major water supply interruptions designed to ensure the long-term integrity of the local water system.
The first interruption is scheduled for Friday, 13 February 2026, from 07:00 to 17:00. This outage is required for maintenance on a 315mm main line at the Kanana Reservoir. Residents in Kanana Extensions 5, 6, 13, and 14 are advised to store sufficient water for emergency use.
Following this, a second, more extensive interruption will take place on Saturday, 14 February 2026, from 06:00 to 18:00. This 12-hour window is dedicated to the cleaning and disinfection of the 9Mℓ Dawkinsville Reservoir.
The areas expected to be without water include:
Klerksdorp CBD
Pienaarsdorp
Neserhof
Matlosana Mall
Municipal officials have urged all affected consumers to prioritize water for drinking, cooking, and sanitation, and to monitor official social media channels for real-time updates.

SACAP Outreach Initiative: Bridging the Gap in Architecture
Beyond infrastructure, the City of Matlosana is focusing on professional development and public education. In collaboration with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP), the municipality will host an outreach initiative on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
The event, held at the Arts Hall in the main Municipal building in Klerksdorp from 10:00 to 13:00, aims to achieve several key objectives:
Registration Awareness: Educating professionals on the necessity of formal registration.
Public Advocacy: Promoting the use of qualified architectural professionals for public safety and design quality.
Ethics and Conduct: Reinforcing the importance of adhering to the professional code of conduct for those already registered.
This initiative represents a proactive effort by the municipality to ensure that local construction and design standards remain aligned with national regulations.
Through these combined efforts of infrastructure upkeep and professional regulation, the Matlosana Local Municipality continues to balance the immediate technical needs of its residents with the long-term goal of fostering a regulated, professional local economy. Residents and professionals alike are encouraged to engage with these programs to ensure a smoother transition through the scheduled service downtimes.
