The City of Matlosana is actively strengthening its presence within the community by rolling out dual initiatives aimed at youth development and administrative accessibility. By blending educational support with decentralized financial services, the municipality is working to bridge the gap between local government and its residents in Tigane, Wilkoppies, and Orkney.

Youth Literacy Takes Center Stage in Tigane
In a vibrant celebration of World Read Aloud Day, the City of Matlosana Library Services collaborated with the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports, and Recreation to host a Read Aloud and Spelling Bee Competition. The event took place at the Tigane Library, drawing enthusiastic participation from learners representing Tigane Primary, Kabelano Primary, and Bakang Primary schools.
The competition was designed to foster a deep-seated culture of reading among young learners, providing a platform to showcase their linguistic talents and public speaking skills. Beyond the competitive aspect, the initiative highlights the municipality’s commitment to early childhood development and the promotion of literacy as a foundational tool for community growth.

Finance Department Brings Essential Services to Residents
Simultaneously, the Matlosana Finance Department has expanded its Outreach Pay Point Campaign, moving essential administrative functions out of the central offices and directly into high-traffic neighborhood hubs. This initiative is designed to simplify the process for residents to manage their municipal affairs.
Key services currently offered at these mobile stations include:
Indigent Subsidy Applications: Assisting households with a gross income of R4,700 or less to access relief for water, electricity, and sanitation.
Account Queries and Payments: Facilitating municipal account settlements and addressing billing concerns.
Credit Control: Offering a space for residents to make formal payment arrangements.
The outreach is currently active at the Orkney Library through the end of the week, operating from 09:00 to 15:00. Additionally, a recurring presence has been established at the Wilkoppies Pick n Pay Hyper, which serves the public every Wednesday and Saturday. These efforts reflect a strategic move to improve service delivery and financial transparency across the region.

Through these diverse programs, the City of Matlosana is demonstrating a multifaceted approach to governance that prioritizes both the intellectual future of its youth and the practical financial needs of its households. By meeting residents where they live and shop, the municipality aims to foster a more inclusive and efficient local environment.
