A syndicate, including two municipal employees and two community members from Matlosana, was arrested on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, following a collaborative investigation into allegations of fraud and corruption within the City.
The arrests were made by the Hawks (Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation), stemming from an investigation led by the South African Police Service's (SAPS) organised crime team. The investigation focused on allegations that the syndicate was soliciting bribes from specific community members, promising them municipal employment in return for cash or other forms of compensation.
The City of Matlosana has formally welcomed the arrests, reiterating its firm commitment to ethical conduct and zero tolerance toward corruption.

Key Legal and Internal Actions
The individuals arrested have been formally charged with fraud and corruption.
Court Appearance: The four accused are scheduled to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday, December 5, 2025, where they will apply for bail.
Internal Disciplinary Process: The municipality has confirmed that internal disciplinary processes for the two arrested employees will run concurrently with the ongoing criminal investigation. This step underscores the City's dedication to upholding the integrity of its public service.

Public Advisory: Warning Against Employment Scams
The municipality is using this incident to issue a strong warning to the public regarding fraudulent employment schemes. The official statement makes it unequivocally clear: The municipality will never ask any individual to pay money or any form of compensation in exchange for employment.
Members of the public are urgently advised:
Treat Requests as Scams: Any request for payment in exchange for a municipal job offer should be immediately treated as a scam.
Report Immediately: Such requests must be reported immediately to the relevant municipal offices or local law enforcement authorities.
Liability Warning: The City warns that it will not be held liable for any loss suffered by individuals who engage with fraudsters outside official municipal recruitment channels.
Whistle-Blowing Encouraged
The City encourages both residents and employees to continue playing an active role in maintaining clean governance by reporting unethical behaviour. Established whistle-blowing channels remain open and operational for any individual wishing to report corruption or fraud confidentially.

The successful arrest of this syndicate is viewed as a crucial step in ensuring that those who abuse public office or prey on job-seeking community members face the full might of the law.
