On 12 September 2025, the City of Matlosana demonstrated its dual commitment to social upliftment and service delivery. The day began with a heartfelt initiative led by MMC Elizabeth Mabebe, where food hampers were distributed to people living with disabilities across several communities, including Jouberton, Alabama, Jacaranda, Dominionville, Kanana, and Khuma. Later that day, Executive Mayor Councillor Fikile Mahlophe convened a meeting with business owners in Uraniaville to address pressing service delivery challenges affecting local industries and households, ranging from deteriorating roads to water shortages and frequent sewer spillages.

Food Hampers Distributed to People Living with Disabilities
On the same day, the municipality also rolled out a social upliftment initiative focused on vulnerable residents. Through the Transversal Unit led by MMC Elizabeth Mabebe, food hampers were distributed to people living with disabilities in several communities, including Jouberton, Alabama, Jacaranda, Dominionville, Kanana, and Khuma.
Speaking during the programme, MMC Mabebe emphasized that the City of Matlosana is committed to inclusivity and social protection. “Our municipality continues to prioritize vulnerable groups to ensure that no one is left behind in the fight against poverty and hunger,” she said. The initiative forms part of the City’s broader drive to expand social protection measures and partner with stakeholders in addressing the needs of disadvantaged households.
On 12 September 2025, the Executive Mayor of the City of Matlosana, Councillor Fikile Mahlophe, convened a meeting with business owners in Uraniaville to address service delivery concerns impacting local industries and the wider community.
Business owners, including Mr. Barry Smith of Bates Mining Specialists (Pty) Ltd, raised several issues:
Poorly maintained roads
Ongoing water shortages and leakages
Frequent sewer spillages
These challenges, they argued, not only disrupt operations but also affect the livelihoods of many families connected to their businesses.
In response, municipal representatives committed to tangible interventions:
Roads: Patching and resurfacing of damaged routes.
Water: Assessment and repair of water leaks in Klerksdorp.
Sewer Systems: Cleaning stormwater drains and repairing spillage sites.
The municipality and business sector will collaborate under Operation Tlhasela, an initiative aimed at accelerating infrastructure maintenance and restoring services. A follow-up meeting in two weeks will review progress.

A Dual Approach to Development
The two initiatives highlight the municipality’s dual approach to community development: addressing critical infrastructure concerns that impact economic activity, while also safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable residents through targeted social support.
By engaging with business leaders and extending assistance to people living with disabilities, the City of Matlosana aims to balance economic sustainability with social inclusivity, reinforcing its long-term development goals.
