The City of Matlosana has intensified its oversight of the 2026 academic year through a series of high-level school readiness evaluations. Led by key municipal figures, these visits aim to ensure that local educational facilities are fully prepared to provide quality education while addressing systemic challenges such as infrastructure needs and learner placement.

Single Whip of Council Leads Readiness Programme
On Thursday, 15 January 2026, the Office of the Single Whip of Council, directed by Cllr Rosy Thabanchu, continued a multi-day consultation programme that originally commenced on Tuesday, 13 January. In collaboration with Hon Nombuyiselo Sompa Masiu (Member of Parliament), the delegation conducted site visits to Hoërskool Klerksdorp and Klerksdorp Primary School.
The assessments focused on several critical areas:
Infrastructure & Resources: Evaluating the physical state of school buildings and the availability of necessary learning materials.
Placement Management: Identifying hurdles related to late applications and school capacity limits.
Alabama Admissions Hub: Highlighting the essential role of the hub in Alabama, which assists parents in finding available spaces for learners across Matlosana.

MMC Kgang Monitors Jouberton Schools
Furthering the municipality's reach, the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Local Economic Development, Cllr Wesley Kgang, conducted a monitoring visit to Nkang-Mahlale Senior Secondary School in Jouberton on 15 January 2026. Cllr Kgang engaged directly with school stakeholders and officials to evaluate the school's resource readiness and to offer municipal support where placement or infrastructure challenges were identified.

Advocacy for Quality Education
During these consultations, Cllr Thabanchu underscored that early school readiness is the foundation for a successful academic year. She specifically urged parents to apply to multiple institutions to increase their children's chances of placement, especially in high-demand areas. The combined efforts of the Single Whip and the MMC reflect the City of Matlosana’s commitment to ensuring that every learner has access to a functional and supportive learning environment.
These readiness assessments are scheduled to continue through Friday, 16 January 2026, with further visits planned for Klerksdorp Secondary, Laerskool La Hoff, and Kanana Secondary.
