The City of Matlosana has marked a productive start to 2026, balancing the professional advancement of its leadership with rigorous law enforcement operations. In a dual-focused weekend of activity, the municipality celebrated a major academic achievement for its officials while simultaneously conducting a high-impact cleanup operation in Tigane to ensure public safety and regulatory compliance.

Leadership Excellence: Officials Graduate in Municipal Finance
On Friday, 16 January 2026, the City’s Skills Development Unit, in collaboration with VLS Training and Skills Development, hosted a prestigious graduation ceremony at the Protea Hotel in Klerksdorp. The event recognized a significant academic milestone as municipal officials and councillors were awarded their Municipal Financial Management (CPMD) NQF Level 6 certificates.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking dignitaries, including:
Hon. Gaoage Molapisi: MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs.
Cllr Stella Mondlane-Ngwenya: Speaker of Council.
Cllr Portia Mokoto: MMC for Corporate Support.
Speaker Mondlane-Ngwenya lauded the graduates, noting that the qualification is more than just a certificate, it is a vital tool for enhancing service delivery. By strengthening the financial and administrative competency of its leadership, the City of Matlosana aims to ensure more transparent and efficient governance for its residents.

Enforcing Compliance: Special Cleanup at Tigane Taxi Rank
While the graduation celebrated internal growth, the City’s law enforcement teams were active on the ground. Led by Mr. Steven Mpato, Assistant Director of Fire and Rescue Services, a Special Cleanup Operation was executed at the Tigane Taxi Rank (Noorkom Centre) on Friday.
The operation targeted public health risks and the enforcement of municipal by-laws, yielding significant results:
Public Health Protection: A large quantity of expired food items was confiscated and marked for safe disposal.
Business Inspections: Two trading premises were immediately prohibited from operating due to severe hygiene failures and non-compliance.
Immigration & Law Enforcement: Two undocumented foreign nationals were apprehended and processed according to legal protocols.
The municipality has sent a clear message to business owners: compliance with health, safety, and immigration regulations is non-negotiable. These operations are set to continue across Matlosana to protect consumers and maintain an orderly trading environment.

A Vision for a Better Matlosana
Through both the empowerment of its staff and the strict enforcement of its laws, the City of Matlosana is demonstrating a comprehensive approach to urban management. These efforts reflect a commitment to a municipality that is both professionally managed and physically safe for all who live and trade within its borders.
