The Merafong City Local Municipality has kickstarted a series of Youth iMbizos aimed at empowering young people, giving them a platform to share their ideas, raise concerns, and participate in shaping their future. The initiative began with a gathering at the Khutsong Multi-Purpose Center on 2 September 2025, and will continue at the Wedela Community Hall on 3 September 2025.
Led by Youth Coordinator Ms. Moliehi Didi Shata, the programme reflects the municipality’s commitment to investing in youth development and ensuring that young people play an active role in building a sustainable and community-oriented future.

Purpose of the Youth iMbizo
The Youth iMbizo is designed to create meaningful dialogue between the municipality and young residents. It provides a space for engagement, where challenges are discussed, opportunities are highlighted, and practical steps for progress are identified.
The main objectives include:
Encouraging participation: Giving young people a structured platform to express their ideas and concerns.
Promoting career development: Showcasing pathways in health, social development, and veterinary sectors through initiatives like HW Careers.
Strengthening partnerships: Building relationships between the municipality, local organizations, and the youth community.
Fostering leadership: Inspiring young residents to see themselves as active changemakers in society.

Building Momentum Across Communities
The success of the Khutsong iMbizo highlights the eagerness of local youth to engage with leaders and contribute to Merafong’s development. The continuation of the programme in Wedela demonstrates that this is not a once-off event, but part of a sustained effort to involve young voices across different communities.
By giving priority to education, skills development, and career awareness, the municipality is reinforcing its broader vision of “an economically sustainable, community-oriented, and safe city.”

Shaping the Future Together
Merafong’s Youth iMbizo shows that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are already changemakers today. With structured engagement and support, the municipality is working hand in hand with the youth to shape a future built on sustainability, opportunity, and collective responsibility.
