Message from the Municipal Manager, Mr. Dumisani Mabuza

In his weekly message, Municipal Manager Mr. Dumisani Mabuza expressed appreciation to all municipal employees and stakeholders who continue to uphold the values of public service. He emphasised that every role, regardless of size, contributes to the functioning of Merafong City and the well-being of its residents.

Mr. Mabuza acknowledged the demanding operational conditions experienced in recent days, particularly regarding water-supply challenges and infrastructure repairs. Despite these pressures, many employees demonstrated resilience, professionalism, and a willingness to go the extra mile. Their dedication ensured uninterrupted essential services, even under difficult circumstances.

Looking ahead, he highlighted the municipality’s focus on:

  • Strengthening internal systems

  • Improving coordination

  • Enhancing service quality

  • Upholding accountability, transparency, and responsiveness

He encouraged teams to carry this momentum forward, united in purpose and committed to Merafong’s full potential.

Service Delivery Update: Water Challenges

Merafong City Local Municipality informed the community that the water-supply system remains under severe strain. Reservoir levels continue to drop due to extremely low inflow pressures, resulting in critically reduced storage.

As a result:

  • Some areas are receiving very low pressure

  • Others are unfortunately without water

The municipality is working tirelessly with its bulk water supplier to stabilise the system and restore consistent supply, although persistent low pressures make progress challenging.

Incident in Kokosi

The municipality also raised concern over an incident in Kokosi where individuals stopped water tankers and forcibly emptied water intended for distribution. Those involved claimed that no further tankers should enter the area until full supply is restored. The municipality strongly condemned these actions, stressing that they hinder emergency relief efforts and disadvantage vulnerable households who rely on tanker deliveries.

Residents were urged to exercise patience and allow teams to continue distributing water through all available means while long-term interventions are pursued. The municipality remains committed to resolving the crisis and will provide ongoing updates.
