Merafong City stands tall in celebration of progress, pride, and purpose. From infrastructure development to sporting excellence and health awareness, the city continues to embody its Re-Imaging Merafong Vision 2035, a vision of building an economically sustainable, community-oriented, and safe city for all.

Roads and Stormwater Project Handover – Khutsong Ward 2
The Executive Mayor, Cllr Nozuko Best, together with the MMC for Roads, Stormwater and Public Works, Cllr Disebo Tabane, officially leads the handover of the completed Construction of Roads and Stormwater Project (Phase 8A) today, 31 October 2025, at 10h00 in Khutsong Ward 2, Moleleki Street (Site Office).
This milestone represents more than just upgraded infrastructure, it reflects the municipality’s commitment to improving service delivery, safety, and accessibility for residents. The new roads and stormwater systems will significantly enhance living conditions, reduce flooding risks, and stimulate local economic activity.
The handover is a key step in advancing Merafong’s Vision 2035, a blueprint designed to transform the city into a modern, sustainable, and people-centered urban environment.

Celebrating Local Talent: Shaun Els Shines on the Global Stage
In another proud moment for the community, Merafong City congratulates Shaun Els from Fochville, a young football star making waves internationally. Shaun, a dedicated product of the Khutsong Sports Academy, has been developing his skills since the age of 11 under the mentorship of Hloni Majeje Kharejane.
Currently a learner at Carlton Jones High School, Shaun represents Kaizer Chiefs U19 and competes in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) under Coach David Mathebula and Coach Vela Khumalo. His recent selection to South Africa’s U17 National Team (Amajimbos) for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar marks a defining moment in his journey.
Shaun’s story is one of determination, discipline, and community support, showing how investment in youth and sports development can inspire success beyond borders. Merafong City wishes him and the Amajimbos team great success as they carry the nation’s flag high.

Breast Cancer Awareness and Community Health Initiatives
As October draws to a close, Merafong City joins the global movement in observing Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Through a dedicated two-day campaign on 29 and 31 October 2025, the municipality hosted Breast Cancer and Mental Health Awareness events in Fochville and Carletonville.
The program included educational presentations, health screenings, fitness activities, and counselling sessions led by professionals from the Department of Health, Mental Health and Social Impact Specialists, and Gender-Based Violence Support Units.
These efforts aim to educate, empower, and encourage early detection, reinforcing that awareness is the first step in saving lives. The message is clear, health, hope, and unity are at the heart of every strong community. 💕

Summary
From the strengthening of physical infrastructure to nurturing human potential and promoting public health, Merafong City continues to deliver on its promise of progress. Each milestone, whether a completed road, a world-stage athlete, or a life-saving awareness campaign, contributes to a city that moves forward together, with pride and purpose.
