A Mother’s Day with a Difference
Forget the overpriced lunch specials and predictable flower bouquets. This year, Kosmos Pottery is offering something a little different, and a lot more hands-on, for Mother’s Day. On Sunday, 11 May, locals in Potchefstroom can join a pottery class designed for anyone keen to get their hands dirty in the name of bonding and creativity.
Running from 10:00 to 13:00 at Waffle & Co (Plot 496, MC Roode Street, Potch), the class invites participants to create their very own wax melt burner. It's part DIY, part Mother’s Day celebration, and possibly part comedic exercise in working with wet clay.
Not Just for the Pros
You don’t need to be a ceramic master or even particularly crafty to join in. The idea is to have fun, make something memorable, and probably get a bit of glaze on your jeans. For R380 per person, it’s a three-hour guided session with all materials provided, and a hard limit of just 10 spaces. So if you’ve been thinking about it, maybe don’t wait until Saturday night to message Monia.
How It All Started
Kosmos Pottery began back in 2009 as a hobby. Like most hobbies, it quietly took over, and by 2019 it had become a full-time gig. The founder describes working with clay as therapeutic, which is probably true, until someone forgets to wedge properly and their bowl collapses. Still, there’s something about the process that keeps people coming back, and this Mother’s Day event is just one more way to share it with the community.
