Multi-Agency Roadblock on N12 Yields Results, Enhancing Safety Between Potchefstroom and Gauteng

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Potchefstroom executed a successful cross-border roadblock on the N12 highway, a critical link between Potchefstroom and the Gauteng Province on 5 December. The high-visibility operation was a concentrated effort to enforce strict law-compliance, promote road safety, and actively disrupt criminal activities along this significant route.

Leadership and Collaboration
The initiative was spearheaded by Brigadier Matamela, who led a coordinated deployment of SAPS members and provincial Traffic officials. This multi-agency collaboration was instrumental in ensuring a comprehensive approach to monitoring the flow of traffic and addressing potential transgressions.
High-Level Ministerial Support
The importance of the operation was underscored by the presence of high-ranking government officials. Mrs. Barbra Creecy, the Minister of Road and Transport Management, and Mr. Wessels Morweng, the North West MEC for Community Safety, visited the roadblock to observe the proceedings. Both officials commended the level of multi-agency cooperation and visibility demonstrated by the teams on the ground.
Community Partnership and Enforcement Outcomes
Further strengthening the ties between law enforcement and the public, the Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson were also in attendance, lending their support and highlighting the importance of community partnerships in driving safety initiatives.
In terms of enforcement, the operation resulted in the issuance of 16 fines, with a collective value totaling R13,800. Law-enforcement agencies reiterated their commitment through these proactive efforts to combat transgressions and foster a culture of safer roads.
SAPS Potchefstroom affirmed its dedication to continued proactive policing initiatives that aim to enhance public safety and strengthen cooperation between authorities and the community they serve.
