Culinary heritage and SMME development at Goudkoppie Heritage Hill

The City of Matlosana’s Tourism department recently hosted a gastronomy event at Goudkoppie Heritage Hill to highlight regional traditions and support local Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs). The event featured traditional dishes such as Mala Mogodu, Chotlo, and Bogobe, providing a commercial platform for local vendors to showcase their culinary skills to stakeholders and students.

Executive Mayor Cllr Fikile Mahlope and other officials attended the festivities, which included traditional dance and poetry. The Mayor emphasized that food production is a vital driver for tourism and economic growth, urging the community to engage in agricultural collaboration. This initiative underscores the municipality’s commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs and preserving cultural diversity through economic opportunity.

Water supply interruptions affect western Klerksdorp

A formal notice has been issued regarding an unplanned water supply interruption affecting several areas in western Klerksdorp, including Roosheuwel, Oudorp, and Meiringspark. Technical assessments identified a significant blockage on the mainline at the Oudorp reservoir as the primary cause of the service failure.

Municipal technical teams were dispatched immediately and remain on-site to resolve the issue. While a specific restoration time has not yet been confirmed due to the complexity of the repair, the municipality has committed to providing regular updates. Residents are advised to monitor official municipal channels for the latest information on the restoration of the full water supply.

Second registration call for renewable energy projects

The Local Economic Development (LED) Directorate has issued a second call for registration for local SMMEs, contractors, and job seekers interested in the Orkney Solar PV and Hartbeesfontein Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This extension ensures that those who missed the initial window can still be included in the procurement and employment database via the Veers Group website.

The municipality has stressed that the registration process is entirely free of charge and cautions the public against fraudulent schemes requesting payment for project access. This initiative is part of a strategic effort to ensure that large-scale green energy infrastructure provides tangible benefits and employment to the local Matlosana community.

Adoption of WhatsApp digital assistant for municipal services

The City of Matlosana has launched an official WhatsApp Bot (066 300 6000) to modernize administrative processes and improve resident access to services. This digital tool allows users to manage their accounts remotely, reducing the need for physical visits to municipal offices for routine tasks.

Through the bot, residents can access statements, facilitate payments, and receive answers to frequently asked questions. The platform also offers a step-by-step registration guide and live agent support for more complex queries. This rollout represents a significant step in the municipality’s transition toward a more transparent and digitally accessible governance model.

The City of Matlosana remains focused on a strategy of regional stability and modernization. While technical teams work to stabilize the water network, the administration is actively securing the local business future through renewable energy integration and digital innovation. Residents are encouraged to utilize the new digital platforms to stay informed on service restoration and upcoming economic opportunities.
