New PR Councillor Sworn into JB Marks Local Municipality Council

In a formal ceremony held at the Potchefstroom Magistrate Court, the JB Marks Local Municipality officially welcomed a new member to its council chambers. Cllr. Matthys Wilhelm Christiaan Rossouw (Senior), representing the Freedom Front Plus, was sworn into office on Friday, 9 January 2026.

The Swearing-In Ceremony
The legal proceedings were presided over by Chief Magistrate Tshadi Leshomo, who administered the oath of office to Cllr. Rossouw (Senior). The event marked a formal transition of leadership within the council, ensuring that the proportional representation of the municipality remains fully staffed and functional.
The ceremony was conducted in the presence of several key figures, including:
Ald. Moithoesi Rosy Dassie: The Speaker of the Council, who witnessed the official induction.
Cllr. Matthys Wilhelm Christiaan Rossouw (Junior): Who attended in support of the new councillor.

A Transition in Leadership
Cllr. Rossouw (Senior) assumes the role of Proportional Representative (PR) Councillor, a position previously held by Cllr. Izak Johannes De Villiers. As a PR Councillor, Rossouw will be tasked with representing the interests of his constituency and contributing to the legislative and oversight functions of the local government.

The JB Marks Local Municipality has extended its well-wishes to Cllr. Rossouw (Senior), expressing confidence in his ability to serve the community effectively in this new capacity.
