In a swift turnaround for local service delivery, the JB Marks Local Municipality has officially announced the successful restoration of the Ventersdorp Road Pump Station. Following an emergency shutdown on Tuesday, 07 April 2026, caused by severe flooding from persistent rainfall, municipal technical teams and contractors have managed to clear the facility and stabilize operations .

Successful Technical Recovery and Pumping Status
The flooding, which initially threatened to cause a prolonged water crisis across Potchefstroom’s western and southern sectors, was resolved faster than initially anticipated. Municipal authorities have confirmed that the water ingress has been completely cleared, allowing for a full mechanical assessment of the infrastructure.
Key details regarding the current operational status include:
Pump Performance: All five pumps at the station are now fully operational.
Capacity: The station is running at its required capacity to ensure the replenishment of reservoirs.
System Stability: Technical teams have reported no further electrical or mechanical issues at the site, signaling a return to normal operational parameters.
Restoration of Supply to Affected Neighborhoods
With the pump station back online, the water supply is currently being phased back into the municipal network. Residents and institutions that experienced dry taps over the last 24 hours should now see a return of water flow and pressure.
The areas cleared for restored supply include:
Healthcare & Defense: Witrand Hospital and the SANDF base.
Residential Zones: Kanonierspark, Dassierand, Promosa, and Mohadin.
Extended Areas: All Ikageng Extensions and the Eersterantjies Reservoirs.
The municipality noted that while the pumps are at full capacity, some high-lying areas may experience a slight delay in reaching full pressure as the network pipes and reservoirs refill.

The JB Marks Local Municipality has expressed its gratitude to the community for their patience and cooperation during the brief but intense disruption. While the immediate crisis at the Ventersdorp Road Pump Station has been resolved, the municipality remains on high alert regarding weather patterns and is proceeding with the previously announced electrical maintenance scheduled for this coming Sunday. This recovery highlights a successful intervention in maintaining critical urban infrastructure under environmental pressure.
