The North-West University Eagles kicked off their Varsity Football 2025 season with an electrifying match against the University of Johannesburg at UJ Soweto Stadium, marking the beginning of a seven-round tournament capped off by semifinals on 25 September and finals on 2 October.

First Half: UJ Takes Lead
In a tense opening 45 minutes, UJ leveraged home advantage to score first, entering the half-time break with a 1–0 lead. With both defenses holding firm, the Eagles found themselves trailing but undeterred going into the second period.

Final Whistle: Eagles Fight Back for a Draw
The second half saw the Eagles respond with determination. Their persistence paid off as they scored an equalizer to level the game. The match concluded in a 1–1 draw, a hard-fought result that showcased the Eagles’ resilience and fighting spirit, earning them a share of the points in this Group A opener.
