Building Brotherhood Since 1927 HEIMAT Men’s Residence holds a special place in the history of NWU Potchefstroom. Built in 1927, it is not just the oldest building on campus but also a cornerstone of the university's student life. Unlike traditional hostels, HEIMAT is a town-based residence, where students live in private accommodations such as apartments or houses while participating actively in hostel events and activities.
Affectionately referred to as “HEIMAT”, always written in capital letters, this residence embodies a legacy of brotherhood and tradition. The name symbolizes a home that is not constructed with bricks but bound by the spirit of unity, respect, and camaraderie.

What Makes HEIMAT Unique?
Rich History: As one of the first residences on campus, HEIMAT has a storied legacy.
The “Klapheis” Clubhouse: A central hub for camaraderie, equipped with a TV, pool table, and braai facilities.
Annual Traditions: Events like the “Tour de HEIMAT” year-end celebration, Father and Son Golf Day, and securing the Daily Cup six years running.
Community Engagement: Through SRCS (Student RAG Community Service), HEIMAT leads meaningful projects, such as supporting the Regorogile Early Learning Center.

Located next to the SS building, near Nashua and ABSA ATMs.
Open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (13:00–14:00).

Open Wednesdays and Fridays (13:00–14:00).
Hosts events such as post-rugby match celebrations, where the “Player of the Match” is announced.
