The Matlosana / Stilfontein Animal Shelter has officially confirmed that more than 20 rescued animals were successfully placed into permanent homes during the month of May.

The non-profit organisation, which operates under the community banner "where we choose life," noted that the influx of successful adoptions significantly helps alleviate structural pressure on their local holding facilities.
The monthly adoption drive forms part of the shelter’s continuous campaign to promote responsible pet ownership and reduce the number of stray and abandoned animals within the Matlosana municipal area.
Direct Impact of Community Rehoming
Shelter management emphasized that each successful adoption frees up critical cage space, enabling the facility to take in and rehabilitate more vulnerable animals off the streets.
For the adopted animals, the transition means secure access to nutrition, veterinary oversight, and safe domestic environments ahead of the approaching winter months.
The organisation released an official statement of appreciation thanking the various stakeholders who made these outcomes possible:
Adoptive Families: Commended for choosing shelter adoptions over commercial pet purchasing.
Volunteers and Staff: Recognized for their daily operational commitment, kennel maintenance, and animal socialization efforts.
Donors and Sponsors: Maintained as the financial lifeline of the facility, ensuring that food bowls remain filled and medical interventions are covered.
Ongoing Advocacy: "Adopt, Don't Shop"
Despite the positive turnaround for the 20+ animals rehomed in May, the shelter reminds the public that many more dogs and cats are still currently waiting for their turn behind the facility gates. The organisation continues to advocate for its core message, "Adopt. Don't shop. Save a life," urging residents who are considering adding a pet to their household to inspect the shelter's available animals first.
As a community-dependent facility, the Matlosana / Stilfontein Animal Shelter remains reliant on public donations of pet food, blankets, and financial contributions to sustain its daily life-saving operations for the remainder of the 2026 calendar year.
