If you thought Potchefstroom was all about quiet nights and boerie rolls, think again. On Wednesday, 21 May 2025, The Roots will be hosting something wildly different – a cine-concert titled Paris Qui Dort, where vintage film gets a serious electro revamp.
A Night of Silent Film, Loud Beats
Paris Qui Dort is a 1924 silent sci-fi film by René Clair, reimagined through the eyes (and ears) of French percussionist and composer Stéphane Scharlé. But this isn't your gran’s silent movie session. Scharlé will perform a live soundtrack using his own set of “augmented drums” – a musical rig that blends old-school rhythms with electronic flair. Think techno meets time travel.
Eight Courses. One Screen. Multiple Wows.
The event isn’t stopping at audiovisuals. The Roots, known for bending the rules of fine dining, will serve up an 8-course canapé tasting menu. It’s all about flavour, flair, and finger food, with dishes that promise to be as creative as the concert itself.
