The Potchefstroom Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is swimming in a sea of generosity this May! From school kids to fearless firefighters, and even a daring cat rescue, it’s been a busy and heartwarming time for the PAWS team and their furry residents.
Baillie Park’s Big-Hearted Bunch
Laerskool Baillie Park, gave it horns! Every mother, father, child and onnie chipped in to gather a mountain of pet food and goodies. The school’s tables overflowed with donations, from tins of Husky to crunchy dog chunks and snuggly blankets. A special shoutout to the organisers who pulled the project together with infectious enthusiasm!

ALS and the Dirt-Digging Crew
When PAWS needed help, ALS didn’t think twice. They rolled in with their JCB, digging trenches with the sort of gusto you usually see in a 5-year-old playing in the sandpit. Big thanks to ALS for getting stuck in and showing how serious they are about supporting the local animal community.

Potch FPA: Burning for the Bugs
PAWS got an unusual but vital helping hand from the Potch Fire Protection Association (FPA). They decided it was time to clear out those pesky bugs and brush at PAWS HQ with a well-coordinated controlled burn. The flames roared, the smoke billowed, and the bugs? Well, they packed their tiny bags and left. Thanks to the Potch FPA for keeping the property safe and clean.

Little Eden Pre-School Potchefstroom: Lessons in Love
Little Eden Pre-School kids learnt that giving can be just as fun as playing. They hosted a pawsome collection drive, donating everything from dog food to cat treats. The children’s visit to PAWS brought smiles to everyone, both human and animal!

Blanket Blitz: Jenny Internet’s Drive
Winter’s icy fingers can be tough on the kennels, but Jenny Internet Potchefstroom ran a “Blanket Drive” that would make any polar bear proud. Loads of thick, fluffy blankets poured in, promising cosy nights for the animals who call PAWS home.

The Palm Tree Peril: Kitty’s 5-Hour Rescue
In a scene straight out of an action movie, a determined rescue team (and a ridiculously long ladder) spent five hours coaxing a cat out of a palm tree. JP from Pest Police deserves a medal for going where no sane person usually goes. The cat’s fine, but we suspect it’s been grounded for life after this little adventure.

JB Marks Municipality and Potch Gas Tech: Always Just a Call Away
When things go south, it’s comforting to know that JB Marks Municipality and Potch Gas Tech & Appliances are only a phone call away. Their support during the palm tree rescue was invaluable – thanks for making sure PAWS never feels alone!

PAWS wants to give the warmest of thank yous to everyone who pitched in – whether it was with food, blankets, toys or your time. Every little bit helps to make life brighter for the animals in their care.
From digging dirt to saving cats in trees, this May was a real team effort. And PAWS couldn’t be more grateful.
