The local sporting landscape has received a significant boost following the announcement that Khotso L. Choabi, a Potchefstroom-based performance analyst and technical advisor, has been named the winner of a prestigious national AFCON Analysis Competition. Organized by Football Insights in partnership with KickOff Magazine, the competition sought to identify the highest level of tactical acumen and data interpretation in South African football.

Choabi emerged victorious after a rigorous evaluation process that saw him compete against more than 20 seasoned professional analysts from across the country. The win highlights the growing importance of sports science and tactical execution in modern football, positioning Choabi as a rising figure in the national analytical community.

Unanimous Professional Acclaim
The competition was judged by a panel of elite industry professionals, including the former Technical Advisor for Banyana Banyana and a Performance Analyst associated with the technical team of renowned coach Pitso Mosimane. According to the organizers, Choabi’s analytics were unanimously voted the best among the field of competitors.
The judging panel noted that Choabi’s work demonstrated a sophisticated understanding of game patterns and player metrics. Following his victory, industry leaders have predicted that Choabi is on a trajectory to become a prominent leader in the field of sports analysis.

Expanding the Horizon of Sports Science
Performance analysis is a specialized branch of sports science that involves the systematic observation of play to improve team performance and player development. Despite its critical role in professional leagues globally, it remains a niche career path within many South African communities.
Choabi has expressed a dedicated interest in bridging this knowledge gap. By bringing this national recognition back to his hometown, he aims to elevate the profile of the North West province as a hub for sports science excellence.
"Performance Analysis is a field many people aren’t yet aware of or don’t think to aspire to," Choabi noted, emphasizing his desire to change the perception of sports careers for the next generation.

Vision for 2026: Community and Education
Looking ahead, Choabi has outlined a strategic plan for 2026 focused on skills development within the Potchefstroom area. He intends to host two specialized workshops this year, specifically designed for aspiring analysts, coaches, and students.

These sessions are expected to be of particular interest to individuals studying Sports Science at North-West University (NWU) and other institutions across the province. The workshops will focus on:
Tactical Execution: Translating data into on-field strategy.
Data Interpretation: Utilizing modern software to track player performance.
Career Pathways: Guiding students toward professional roles in elite sporting organizations.

Through these initiatives, the goal is to ensure that the North West province remains competitive within the top tier of South African sports science. By mentoring local talent, Choabi hopes to foster a new wave of professionals capable of contributing to the national footballing infrastructure.
