The rhythmic magic of marimbas echoed with power and pride as The High School for Girls Potchefstroom delivered show-stopping performances at the recent Gimmies Eisteddfod. Both the Senior and Junior Marimba Bands walked away with top awards, a celebration of musical excellence, discipline, and passion.

🎵 Senior Marimba Band – A++ Distinction

Described by adjudicators as “powerful, polished, and captivating,” the Senior Marimba Band left an unforgettable impression. With bold song choices, richly layered textures, and rhythmic mastery, they navigated every transition with ease, from explosive crescendos to subtle, nuanced moments. Their stage presence, joy, and unity elevated their set to a professional level that had the audience in awe.

🎵 Junior Marimba Band – A+ Distinction

This vibrant group captured hearts with a performance that was “joyful, energetic, and musically impressive.” Their inventive use of percussion, creative song choices, and lively spirit had toes tapping throughout the venue. The judges praised their cohesion, discipline, and infectious enthusiasm.

Behind both ensembles is the driving force of Mrs van der Walt, whose dedication, vision, and musical expertise continue to inspire learners. Her leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping not only skilled musicians but confident, expressive young women.
