On Saturday 9 August, community volunteers will station themselves at Mooirivier Junction (outside Checkers) and Canal Crossing (outside Pick n Pay) with a single aim: to fill a shopping trolley at each location for the “Vat Verniet Tafel” taking place on 16 August. Shoppers are invited to add one small item to the trolley as they leave the store, every can, packet or box will ease the burden of a neighbour in need.

How it works
Friendly volunteers will hand out leaflets explaining the project.
After paying for your groceries, simply drop one non-perishable item, a can of food, a packet of pasta, maize meal, rice, or any other usable staple, into the marked trolley.
Each full trolley will go directly to stock the “Take-for-Free Table,” where families can collect essentials at no cost.
Why it matters
A single tin or packet may seem small, yet together these donations create a lifeline for households facing hunger and hardship. The process is quick, easy, and tangibly impactful.
Potch Cares
Whether you stop by to say hello or slip a can into the basket on your way out, you’ll be part of turning ordinary shopping trips into extraordinary acts of kindness. Join the effort, share the message, and help fill every trolley, because in Potchefstroom, a little generosity goes a long way.
