Let’s take a look at what happened at Potch Track Club during the month of June, a month marked by global breakthroughs, courageous performances, and the kind of determination that defines champions in the making.

Golden Moments in Ostrava
The Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic , one of the premier stops on the international athletics calendar , saw Potch Track Club athletes going toe-to-toe with the world’s best.
🥈 Douw Smit’s Javelin Breakthrough
South Africa’s Douw Smit delivered the performance of his life in the men’s javelin, launching a personal best throw of 84.12m to claim 2nd place behind Olympic and World Champion Neeraj Chopra. This throw is not only a milestone for Smit but also likely to propel him into the top 17 javelin throwers globally , an extraordinary rise for the young talent.

💪 Luan Munnik’s Learning Curve in the 1500m
Also competing in Ostrava, Luan Munnik recorded a time of 3:36.89 in the men’s 1500m, slightly off his personal best but a commendable showing against a stacked European field.
This was Munnik’s debut at Golden Spike, and the experience will no doubt serve him well as he continues his season. Competing on such a high-profile platform is invaluable for race tactics, mental toughness, and international exposure.

Duathlon Drama & Determination in Spain
🌍 Divan de Vries at the World Multisport Championships
In a huge milestone for the club and the country, Divan de Vries donned the green and gold at the World Multisport Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, where he competed in the Sprint Duathlon, a grueling mix of running and cycling requiring peak endurance and strategic grit.
After a fast-paced start that saw him just off the lead group, Divan lost a shoe in a chaotic transition, a setback that would’ve rattled most athletes. But not Divan, he kept pushing and remained competitive on the bike, eventually finishing 8th in the world.
