Potchefstroom, South Africa – Mark your calendars: Saturday, 10 May 2025
Potchefstroom Academy is rolling out the red carpet – or rather, the graduation gowns – for its Open Day 2025. Whether you're a high school leaver, a career shifter, or simply a curious local with nothing better to do on a Saturday morning, the gates will be open from 08:00 at 59 Dr James Moroka Avenue, Potchefstroom.
A Look Behind the Curtain
Attendees can expect a full-campus experience. The agenda includes tours of the on-campus accommodation, chats with lecturers who are allegedly “passionate,” and the chance to meet real, live students. The Academy promises a no-frills, honest look at what life and learning are like on its grounds – coffee likely included.
Entry for the day is absolutely free. But space is limited, so booking ahead is recommended if you'd prefer not to stand at the back awkwardly during presentations.
Programmes with a Purpose
Potchefstroom Academy has been around since 1981 and has built a name for itself in the realm of career-driven qualifications. The focus here isn’t on fancy Latin phrases or massive lecture halls; it’s on preparing students to actually get hired – or better yet, start something of their own. The curriculum encourages practical skills and entrepreneurial thinking, with lecturers that keep things relevant, interactive, and yes, sometimes fun.
In 2003, the Academy expanded its offerings by acquiring SAAHST (South African Academy of Health and Skincare Technology). The addition brought with it courses in Hairdressing, Cosmetology, Nail Technology, and Business Management. If you’re looking to become your own boss or just finally understand how salons make so much money, this could be your jam.

So, Why Go?
Because education doesn’t have to be boring. Because career paths don’t always require a traditional university degree. And maybe, just maybe, because you’re curious if you still remember how to take notes.
Head over to Potch Academy this May. You might leave with a clearer idea of your future—or at the very least, a few good Instagram shots.
🎓 See you there (but book first).
