The Potchefstroom community is once again struck with grief following the news of the passing of Deon Fourie. He died yesterday, Sunday, 14 December, in a hospital in Gauteng, only a month after he was critically wounded during the tragic shooting incident at Chubby Chick Offices on 10 November.
The incident last month also claimed the life of his brother, Johnathan Fourie, whose Celebration of Life service was held last week Monday. Following careful consideration and out of sympathy for the Fourie family's privacy, who now face the incomprehensible loss of two brothers in one month, we chose to confirm this news today, Monday.

The Fight and The End
Deon Fourie had been extensively in the news recently after surviving the shooting incident at Chubby Chick in the North West town, Potchefstroom, last month. He fought for his life until the end.
Numerous social media users shared their shock and horror as the news of Deon's death became known. The tragedy that unfolded on 4 November has left the North West town and its people in complete shock.
Community Shares in the Grief
The Fourie family, friends, and the entire Chubby Chick Family, are receiving a huge outpouring of condolences.
Basil Kletz, a friend of the family and of the Potch Old Boys communities, confirmed the news and expressed his deep sadness:
"I wish to share the news of Deon Fouries passing at 10.45am (this morning - Sunday)." (Note: This statement was originally shared Sunday morning, not Monday)
"Our sincere condolences to the Fourie family on the passing of Deon so soon after Johnathan."
"Your grief is our grief."
He added that this is a "terrible tragedy that has taken the lives of two of Potch Boys High’s finest Old Boys, two of Potchefstroom’s most loved sons."
The Potchefstroom Dorp Rugbyklub paid a poignant tribute:
"It is with great sadness that we received the news."
"May you Rest in Peace, Deon."
"You were a supporter and a friend of the club and our club will never forget Your, Johnathan and Oupi’s humanity, we will miss your kindness on our stoep."
The club concluded with the moving phrase: "Stil, broers, daar gaan 'n man verby...."
Our prayers accompany the Fourie family. May they find strength and comfort amidst their unimaginable loss.

R.I.P. Deon.
