Road Closure Notice for OAKtober Family OakRun in Potchefstroom on 18 October

Residents and motorists in Potchefstroom are advised to take note of temporary road closures and traffic adjustments taking place this coming Saturday, 18 October 2025, during the OAKtober Family OakRun on the Bult.

Hosted by the Oak Avenue Interest Group in collaboration with Potchefstroom Central School, the event will run from 07:30 to 09:30, and aims to bring families, students, and community members together for a morning of fitness and fun, while also supporting local heritage and environmental initiatives.

Road Closures and Affected Areas

To ensure the safety of runners, marshals, and spectators, specific routes will be temporarily closed under supervision from JB Marks Municipality traffic officials.

Full Road Closure:

Steve Biko Street - from Borcherd Street to Gerrit Dekker Street

Partial Road Closure:

Calderbank Street - from Gerrit Dekker Street to the Dam/Lakeside Resort entrance

These closures will be in effect between 07:30 and 09:30 on the morning of the event. Motorists are urged to plan alternative routes and allow for extra travel time if moving through The Bult or surrounding areas during this period.

Traffic officials, security guards, and marshals will be stationed along the course to manage intersections and guide vehicles safely around the closed sections. All routes are expected to reopen by 09:30, once the run has concluded and the area is cleared.

Municipal Coordination and Event Safety

According to organisers, the event has been officially classified as a Low Risk Event, with all necessary municipal approvals and safety protocols in place. The JB Marks Municipality will oversee the temporary road closures and ensure participant safety throughout the morning.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we host this special event,” said a representative of the Oak Avenue Interest Group. “The OakRun is not only a celebration of fitness and togetherness but also supports the ongoing efforts to preserve Potchefstroom’s iconic oak-lined streets.”

Residents are encouraged to show support by cheering on participants or joining the run, which celebrates community wellness and the Save the Oaks of Potch heritage campaign.
