Saddle Up lines up a beginners’ horse camp for December - 13 to 16 December

If the school holidays are looming and a certain young person in the house has started trotting around the lounge, Saddle Up is preparing a four day Equestrian Beginners Camp this December. The camp runs from 13 to 16 December 2025, with entries closing on 5 December, so procrastinators have been gently warned.

What the camp is about

The Saddle Up Equestrian Beginners Camp is aimed at novice riders who want to learn the basics without being thrown into the deep end, or any end that involves falling off a horse. It is hosted at Saddle Up NW Lodge accommodation and Equestrian, and the programme is built around a gentle introduction to riding and horse care.

Campers can expect:

• Foundations of horse care and beginner riding

• Engaging activities and skill building sessions

• Games, teamwork and the kind of holiday fun that leaves everyone dusty and smiling

• A four day sleepover programme with meals included

• A safe and happy environment, which is what parents want to hear even if teenagers pretend not to care

Cost and practical details

The camp fee is R700 per person for the full four days. The venue is at Plot 152, Klerksdorp, close to Klerksdorp Dam.

Parents get their own day

Parents are not left entirely on the sidelines. A Parent Social is planned for 16 December. According to the camp notes, parents can join in on the day, take part in the games, and bring along a braai for a relaxed social. The camp wraps up at 18:00, which should be enough time for a final proud parent photo and a calm drive home before anyone starts singing camp songs in the car.
