The Springbok Women’s Sevens team delivered a dominant and historic performance at the 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Cup, lifting the trophy after defeating Kenya 22–0 in the final. Their campaign will be remembered as one of total control: South Africa did not concede a single point throughout the entire tournament, showcasing their class, discipline, and growing leadership in African women’s sevens rugby.

Flawless Tournament: South Africa Concede Zero Points
From the opening whistle of their quarter-final to the last kick of the final, the Bok Women set a benchmark for defensive precision and attacking flair. Their command of territory, ability to convert pressure into points, and calm management under pressure ensured they breezed through each match without allowing any opposition to cross their try line.
This milestone also secured them qualification for the eight-team Division Three Challenger Series event in Dubai in January, where they will face international competition as a standalone tournament.
Quarter-Final Dominance Against Ghana
South Africa opened their knockout stage in emphatic fashion with a 48–0 victory over Ghana.
Maria Tshiremba was unstoppable, scoring a first-half hat-trick, while Shiniqwa Lamprecht added two more tries for a commanding 29–0 halftime lead. The second half saw continued control, with Ayanda Malinga adding two tries and Leigh Fortuin one, ensuring the momentum carried into the semi-finals.

Semi-Final: Clinical Execution Against Madagascar
In the semi-final, South Africa outplayed Madagascar 29–0, maintaining complete control of possession and field position. Simamkele Namba impressed with a clinical first-half brace, helping the team secure a 17–0 lead at the break.
Zintle Mpupha and Liske Lategan added second-half tries, sealing another confident win and sending the South Africans into the final with maximum momentum.

Final Showdown: South Africa Silence Kenya 22–0
The final against Kenya began as a tense, physical contest, with the hosts applying breakdown pressure early on. South Africa were penalised several times, but Kenya’s rapid tap-and-go strategy failed to break through the disciplined Bok defensive wall.
Shiniqwa Lamprecht opened the scoring five minutes in with a superb individual break, converted by Nadine Roos for a 7–0 halftime lead.
Straight from the second-half restart, South Africa launched a sweeping multi-phase attack that ended with Simamkele Namba diving over for a 12–0 lead. Moments later, Patience Mokone produced a brilliant inside step to score, putting the match firmly out of Kenya’s reach.
A final quick-tap try by Roos capped off the 22–0 win and secured a memorable African title.

Final Whistle
This year’s Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Cup showcased the growing depth, conditioning, and tactical awareness of the Springbok Women’s Sevens squad. Their undefeated, unscored-upon run not only demonstrates continental dominance but also positions them as serious contenders heading into the Challenger Series in Dubai. With momentum on their side and a balanced blend of youth and experience, South Africa will look to build on this historic achievement as they prepare for the next stage of international competition.
