In a time when artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how people create, communicate and connect, South African artist Stephen Gawking is releasing a song that asks a deceptively simple question: what is it that makes creativity truly human?

The answer lies at the heart of 'Manna', his new single featuring acclaimed vocalist Eva Morgan and celebrated rock performer Mark Haze, available on all platforms from Friday 19 June.
Known as The Nuclear Lyricist, Stephen Gawking has built a growing reputation for creating music that combines meaningful storytelling with messages of resilience, hope and perseverance. Living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, he has transformed personal adversity into artistic purpose, using music to encourage people facing challenges of their own and reminding listeners that limitations do not define potential.
With 'Manna', Stephen delivers one of his most thought-provoking releases to date. Wrapped in cinematic pop production and powerful vocal performances, the song explores authenticity, inspiration and the search for meaning in a world increasingly shaped by technology. While acknowledging the growing influence of AI on creativity, 'Manna' ultimately argues that the most powerful art is still born from human experience, from love and loss, faith and doubt, struggle and triumph.
"'Manna' is a reflective pop song about searching for light in uncertain times," says Stephen. "While acknowledging the rise of AI and its influence on art, the song affirms that technology can be embraced without replacing what makes creativity truly powerful, the human soul behind it."
The title itself draws on the biblical concept of manna, a source of nourishment that arrived when it was needed most. Within the song, it becomes a symbol for inspiration, purpose and those moments of clarity that sustain us through life's uncertainties.
To bring that vision to life, Stephen assembled two artists whose own careers have been built on authenticity and emotional connection.
Mark Haze, widely respected for his dynamic live performances and distinctive blend of rock, soul and blues, became involved in the project through an unexpected series of events during the recording process. What began as a practical collaboration quickly evolved into a creative one as he connected deeply with the song's message.
"The song speaks about searching and finding one's way back to centre to fill a void," says Mark. "It is about finding that manna which nourishes the soul. In a world where everyone is constantly searching for the next thing, we often forget to appreciate the blessings already in front of us."
Eva Morgan, one of South Africa's most versatile and accomplished vocalists, brings warmth, elegance and emotional depth to the track. Following her previous collaboration with Stephen on 'Bubblegum Milkshake', she once again demonstrates the vocal sensitivity and artistry that have made her a respected presence on stages across South Africa and beyond.
"I loved working on this song," says Eva. "I had space to showcase my true vocal passion with an incredible melody and beautiful lyrics."
Together, the three artists create a song that feels both timely and timeless. Produced by Bobby Johnson and co-produced by Stephen Gawking, 'Manna' balances polished modern production with genuine emotional storytelling, resulting in a track that invites listeners to reflect on what truly matters.
More than a song about technology, 'Manna' is a song about people. It is about creativity, gratitude, faith, connection and the enduring power of the human spirit. In a world increasingly fascinated by what machines can do, Stephen Gawking, Mark Haze and Eva Morgan offer a reminder of what makes us human.
'Manna' by Stephen Gawking featuring Mark Haze and Eva Morgan is available from Friday 19 June on all platforms.
