Large parts of Potchefstroom are currently experiencing a power outage, with the municipal electricity department confirming that efforts to restore supply are temporarily stalled due to severe weather conditions.

🛑 Restoration Efforts Delayed by Severe Weather
The power outage was reported to municipal electricians around 14:30. While the fault has been identified and the department is aware of the situation, the ongoing storm has made working conditions unsafe for maintenance crews.
Issue Awareness: Municipal electricians have been notified of the fault and are prepared to address the issue.
Current Delay: Due to the current storm, crews are unable to safely commence work on the affected infrastructure.
Plea for Patience: Residents are kindly asked to be patient while awaiting safe weather conditions that will allow technicians to begin repair work.
The DA Ward 7 Councillor issued the notification, assuring the community that the department will prioritize resolving the issue and restoring power as soon as the inclement weather subsides.
Final Thought
Severe weather, including thunderstorms, often leads to power disruptions in South African towns due to lightning strikes, high winds damaging lines, or localised flooding affecting substations. Municipal safety protocols dictate that maintenance and repair work on high-voltage electrical infrastructure cannot proceed until weather conditions improve, minimising risk to the technical staff. Residents should prepare for potential delays until the storm passes.
