The Merafong City Local Municipality has confirmed that temporary road closures will be implemented in Carletonville to accommodate the upcoming State of the City Address at the Civic Centre.

Traffic Arrangements
According to the municipality, Halite Street and Berly Street (around the Civic Centre) will be closed to motorists between 07:00 and 11:00 on 21 August 2025. The decision aims to ensure the safety of both attendees and the broader public during the event.
Municipal officials have appealed for cooperation from residents, businesses, and road users, noting that while disruptions are unavoidable, the temporary closures are necessary to guarantee smooth logistics and public safety.
Communication and Oversight
The announcement was issued by the Office of the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Nozuko Best, with the Municipal Communications Manager, Mr. Fazani, available to respond to enquiries. The municipality also underscored its long-term vision of building “an economically sustainable, community-oriented, and safe city.”

Looking Ahead
While short-term road closures may cause inconvenience, they reflect broader municipal efforts to host key civic events in a safe and organised manner. For residents, early awareness and planning around the closures will help minimize disruption, ensuring the State of the City Address proceeds smoothly while reaffirming the city’s commitment to accountability, service, and public engagement.
