The City of Matlosana to Host North West Regional Choir Eliminations on Women’s Day

The City of Matlosana, in collaboration with the Tiro Mpane Foundation, will host the much-anticipated North West Regional Eliminations of the National Choral Eisteddfod on Saturday, 9 August 2025. This significant musical event, scheduled for 9 AM at Auditorium Hall in Klerksdorp, promises a captivating celebration of choral excellence, cultural pride, and community engagement.



Celebrating Harmony and Talent Across the Region


Coinciding with Women's Day, the regional eliminations are part of the Tiro Mpane Foundation’s broader vision to elevate choral music and provide a competitive platform for emerging and established choirs across South Africa.


The event will feature performances by local favourites including Tshimologo ya Pina, Lesedi La Bakgatli, and the Matlosana Secondary School Choir, alongside a host of accomplished groups competing in both the Standard and Large categories.


Standard Category Competitors and Repertoire


The Standard Category will showcase five choirs delivering both African and Western classical compositions:


  • Matlosana Melodies: Mozart – Agnus Dei | SBP Mnomiya – Vuk’uy’bambe

  • Tshwane Chorus: Mozart – Confutatis & Lacrimosa | M Mogale – Ramathathai

  • Lethlabile Chorale: Donizetti – Requiem | SBP Mnomiya – Madiba

  • Platinum Voices: Gounod – Sanctus | M Mogale – Ramathathai

  • URC-Lesetlheng Choir: Gounod – Sanctus | L Biata – Ipasika


Large Category Showdown


In the Large Category, three powerhouse choirs will present technically challenging Western works complemented by vibrant African choral compositions:


  • NWU Serenaders: Berlioz – Domine Salvum | N Sibisi – Intokazi ngasolwandle

  • The Great CUT Choir: Rossini – Kyrie & Agnus Dei | M Mogale – A me a kalo

  • Da Capo Chorus: Rossini – Gloria & Cum sancto spirito | SPB Mnomiya – Ngiboniseleni


Each group will be evaluated on musicality, harmony, stage presence, and interpretation, with top performers progressing to national-level competitions.

Public Participation and Ticketing


Community members, music lovers, and supporters of the arts are invited to attend this prestigious event. Tickets are available through www.webtickets.co.za. Early attendance is encouraged as doors open at 9 AM.
