Our Story and Growth

Back when we launched in 2018, we focused on creating a user-friendly listing platform. The idea was straightforward: if you needed a plumber, hairdresser, or restaurant in Potchefstroom, you could hop onto our site and find them quickly.

But as time went on, something wonderful happened. We realised people wanted more than just a name and phone number. They craved local stories, in-depth information, and trusted recommendations. That’s how The Go-To Guy grew into a one-stop hub—not just for business listings but also for local news, community happenings, and engaging digital content.

Where we are Today

Today, our website features more than 2,700 businesses, with about 90% of them rooted in Potchefstroom. The rest? They’re businesses that serve the Potchefstroom market in one way or another. Over time, we’ve kept adding new layers:

The Potch Gazette: A digital newspaper and magazine that covers everything from local news to community events, we wrote more than 30,000 articles and snippets to date
StroomStories: Our digital studio where we shine the spotlight on remarkable local personalities and organisations. We live broadcast from our studio several times a week, and you will find programs such as SportStroom (previously RugbyRaas), Spiritual Talk, SkoolKompas, and SafetyLine: Programs covering sports, faith, education, and security, respectively, broadcasted on Facebook Live.
StroomCares: A community support initiative that features local charities and social causes.
Job Board: A platform to explore local job opportunities, ranging from General to Student Jobs, including a dedicated section for Job Seekers to upload their CV's directly to share with potential employers.
Property Board: A listing service for rentals and properties for sale.
SmartStart: A new platform aimed primarily at car dealerships and a range of other automotive industry services and product categories.
Events Calendar: Our events calendar has grown significantly and we are now one of the leading event calendars in the region, with more than 2,600 events having been listed on our Events calendar, its the place to go to find things that happens in and around Potchefstroom.
Farming: Currently under construction and being tested in Beta version, this service will engage with our farming community and value creation initiatives towards our local farming segments

Our Core Assets

Of course, we’re not stopping there. in May 2025, we’re launching a brand-new Android and iOS app to replace the first version of The Go-To Guy app. This upgraded mobile presence will give users quicker, more intuitive access, and provide businesses like yours with even more chances to connect with local customers.

Optional Extras: We’ll also give you a discount on our highly engaging videos, charging only R1,500 per video instead of the standard R2,000. Growth Package

(R1,499 per month - Setup Fee Waived)

If you’re ready to reach more people, more often, the Growth Package is designed to do just that. We waive the setup fee, significantly extend your boosted ads to 18 days each month, and assign you a dedicated account manager.

That means there’s always someone you can message or call for quick questions, ideas, or feedback.

On this package we can also list two free events for you per month on our Calendar for any special events and functions you may have. You’ll also enjoy free job postings, where we collate applications on your behalf, and deeper research pieces every six months.
