There is a unique energy vibrating through the streets of Potch this week. It is the fire of the women’s team, a squad that has become a symbol of strength, courage, and resilience in the local sporting landscape. This Saturday, 11 April, that fire will be put to the test as they welcome a new opponent, Welkom Women, to Olën Park in Potchefstroom for a clash that is about much more than just the scoreboard.

Meet Nala: The Spirit of the Pride
Every great team has a heartbeat, and for the Potch Dorp Women, that heartbeat has a name: Nala. The team recently introduced their fearless mascot, a lioness that perfectly encapsulates the "Pride of Potch Dorp." Nala isn't just a symbol for the fans; she represents the internal characteristics of every player who pulls on the jersey.
At this club, the mission transcends the 80 minutes played on the grass. The program is dedicated to building strong women, fostering unbreakable teamwork, and leaving a lasting legacy for the next generation of female athletes. When you see Nala, you are seeing a commitment to community and the collective strength of women who play for the badge, for each other, and for the city they call home.

Game Week: New Opponent, Same Fire
The anticipation has been building all week, and the message from the camp is clear: It’s time to roar. This Saturday’s fixture against Welkom presents a fresh challenge. Welkom travels to Potchefstroom with a reputation for physical, gritty rugby, but the Dorp Women are ready to meet that intensity head-on.
The mantra for this game week is "One team, one heart, one Dorp." It’s a reminder that while the opponent might be new, the purpose remains the same. The ladies are playing with a "bigger purpose" this season, aiming to solidify their position as a dominant force in the region while playing a brand of rugby that is as entertaining as it is effective. The coaching staff has emphasized focus and hunger, ensuring the squad is mentally locked in for the opening whistle.

The Lineup: Leading from the Front
The club has officially released the match-day squad, and it is a lineup brimming with talent and experience. Leading the charge are the co-captains, Lara (C) and Kat (C). Their leadership will be pivotal in navigating the tactical ebbs and flows of the match.
Potch Dorp Starting XV & Finishers: The front row of Louise, Mpho, and Lara will be tasked with setting a solid platform at the set piece, while the halfback pairing of Kiara S and Hesrie will be looking to pull the strings and unleash the pace of the outside backs like Marli and Verana. With a powerful bench featuring the likes of Karabelo and Chrislyn, the team has the depth to maintain a high tempo for the full duration of the game.

Stand With the Pride
To the supporters of Potchefstroom: We need you. There is no substitute for the "Match Day Vibes" created by a vocal home crowd. The players have put in the work on the training field; now it is up to the community to provide the atmosphere.
Whether you are a long-time supporter of the club or a newcomer to the women's game, Saturday is the day to make your mark. Bring the noise, bring your flags, and stand with the ladies as they leave it all on the field. Let’s show Welkom what it means to play in the Lion’s Den.
