The Vaal Wine Expo is back for its 22nd round, and once again, Gauteng's oldest wine route is promising an afternoon of indulgence along the Vaal River. It’s all going down at Stonehaven on Vaal in Vanderbijlpark — the go-to riverside venue for wine lovers, cruise fans, and anyone keen on a relaxed day out with friends or family.
Event Details
Date: Saturday, 31 May 2025
Time: 12h00 to 17h00 (Gates close at 16h00 — don’t rock up late)
Venue: Stonehaven on Vaal, Rosebush Lane, Zuurfontein, Vanderbijlpark
Price: R300 per person
Booking: WebTickets link
No tickets will be sold at the gate, so make a plan online or pop by Stonehaven beforehand if you want in.
What You Get for Your R300
If you’re wondering what a R300 ticket actually gets you (other than a questionable bank balance), here’s the full rundown:
A branded wine tasting glass — yes, you get to keep it.
Unlimited tastings of over 200 wines (read that again).
A 35-minute cruise on the Vaal River.
Live entertainment to keep the vibe going.
Access to food stalls, a restaurant, a bar, and even a kiddies’ play area.
Basically, it's a wine-lover’s buffet. And for those who like to multitask, you can taste, cruise, eat, and shop all at once.
Who’s Pouring?
Wine estates from across South Africa will be lining up their best bottles for tasting. You’ll also be able to chat to the winemakers themselves, so it’s not just a sip-and-go vibe. Even better, you can buy your favourites at cellar door prices — which is code for “cheaper than usual”.
Important Notes
No tickets sold on the day — zero, zilch, nada.
Kids and designated drivers get in free. There’s something for everyone, even if you’re not planning to hit all 200 tastings.
This is the 22nd year the Vaal Wine Route has hosted the expo, so they clearly know what they’re doing by now.
If you’re thinking, “What’s better than a chilled river cruise with a wine glass in hand?” — well, this is your answer. Just maybe leave the stilettos at home.
