On Friday, 15 August 2025, the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, in partnership with the City of Matlosana, officially launched Phase 5 of the Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Initiative. The event, held at the Manzilpark Community Hall in Klerksdorp from 08:00 AM, marked a renewed effort to improve municipal responsiveness and community engagement.

A Continuation of Progress
Thuntsha Lerole has become a cornerstone of service delivery in the district, with each phase focusing on clearing backlogs, improving access to basic services, and strengthening accountability. Building on the achievements of previous phases, Phase 5 has been strategically designed to fast-track solutions to infrastructure challenges while ensuring that underserved communities benefit from direct municipal support.
Core Objectives
The initiative has outlined three key objectives for this new phase:
Addressing Service Delivery Challenges: Targeting longstanding infrastructure backlogs to improve the daily lives of residents.
Improving Access to Services: Streamlining municipal processes to make essential services more accessible to previously underserved communities.
Strengthening Engagement: Fostering open dialogue between government officials and residents to ensure transparency and shared responsibility.
These goals are intended to not only resolve immediate concerns but also create sustainable pathways for long-term development in the City of Matlosana.

Community-Centred Delivery
By bringing service delivery efforts directly to Manzilpark, municipal leaders are signalling their intention to work side by side with residents. This hands-on approach reflects a broader shift towards responsive governance, where feedback from communities is directly integrated into planning and implementation.
The initiative also aims to strengthen trust between residents and local government, ensuring that service delivery is not seen as a distant process but as a collaborative effort that addresses real and urgent needs.
Final Note
The launch of Thuntsha Lerole Phase 5 underscores a commitment to accelerated service delivery, improved accountability, and meaningful community participation. With a focus on clearing backlogs, enhancing access, and deepening engagement, the City of Matlosana and the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality are taking concrete steps to deliver services where they are needed most.
