15 August: Stolen Motorcycle Alert and Collision near Buffelshoek
Klerksdorp - Stolen Motorcycle:
A Suzuki GSXR 750cc with registration LBN387NW was reported stolen. The public was asked to share the information widely and contact Zanja (069 488 9650) with any relevant leads.
Buffelshoek - Head-On Collision:
A head-on crash occurred on Parys Road near the Buffelshoek Police Station around 16:30. Emergency services were deployed. Delays were anticipated.
16 August: Reckless Driving Report and Public Safety Concern
Du Plooy & Beyers Naude Intersection:
A late-night crash on 15 August was caught on camera, showing both drivers ignoring stop signs and speeding. A community member shared footage, emphasizing the danger posed to other road users and urging greater responsibility.
Taxi Threat Allegations (Unconfirmed):
A viral message suggested that taxi drivers (reportedly SANTACO members) were threatening motorists with damage or violence for transporting more than one passenger. The post claimed that families were being pressured to use taxis instead of private vehicles. The warning urged caution and community vigilance.
17 August: Veld Fire and Major Crime Operation
Viljoenskroon Road - Veld Fire:
Reports indicated a veld fire near the Little Shop on Viljoenskroon Road. Authorities were dispatched to manage the fire.
Vehicle Accident – Albert Luthuli & Louis le Grange:
A crash occurred at the intersection. Mooirivier Beskerming and all relevant emergency teams were on scene.
Copper Cable and Immigration Arrests:
Law enforcement raided the Cosmaya and Royal residential buildings. A total of 85 undocumented foreign nationals were arrested.Confiscated:
403kg of copper cables (valued over R100,000)
Multiple cellphones linked to suspected illegal operations.

18–19 August: Severe Winds and Fire Danger Alerts
FDI Warnings (18 & 19 August):
Status: Yellow (Moderate Risk)
Wind Gusts: 41 km/h (18 Aug) and 40 km/h (19 Aug)
Directive: No Open Fires Till Further Notice
The Potchefstroom Fire Protection Association issued these warnings in response to dry vegetation and increasing wind speeds, which elevate the risk of runaway fires.
20 August: Major Structural Fire and Veld Fire Response
Oriental Plaza Fire – Pietersen Street:
A fire broke out during early hours at the Oriental Plaza. Two shops and four vehicles were destroyed. The blaze caused significant structural damage, with visuals showing extensive interior and exterior destruction.
Veld Fire – Behind Canal Crossing and Golf Course:
Another veld fire was reported behind Canal Crossing and the golf course area. Fire response teams were dispatched.
