The protest aims to expose the severe reality of gender-based violence, emphasising that South Africa loses a woman to murder every 2.5 hours. The shutdown seeks to force government, business, and society to confront what the nation would look like without the women who hold families, workplaces, and communities together.

Authorities are urging motorists to approach all wet areas with caution as infrastructure teams continue damage assessments and emergency repairs.


JB Marks Issues Pump Station Shutdown Notice for Critical Installation


Residents have been advised of a scheduled shutdown at the Ventersdorp Road Pump Station on 18 November 2025, enabling technicians to install a new 200 kW motor and pump. The upgrade is part of a broader strategy to strengthen long-term water supply reliability, and residents in affected areas have been encouraged to store water in advance.

Following the planned shutdown, JB Marks Local Municipality confirmed that the pump station upgrade has been successfully completed. Potchefstroom First Responders reported a busy three-week period involving severe weather alerts, service interruptions, criminal incidents, and road hazards. Cooperation between the public, responders, and SAPS remains critical in maintaining community safety.


Potch Weekly WhatsApp Chatter & Service Update


Heightened community alerts circulated on WhatsApp this past week following reports of unrest in the Bult area, prompting residents to avoid the vicinity. Additional warnings highlighted an uptick in Ford vehicle thefts, particularly bakkies and Ford Everest models, in both Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp. Vehicle owners were urged to secure their vehicles and remain alert.
