From sports fields and studios to colourful classrooms, our local schools brought talent, spirit and commitment to the fore this past week. Here’s a roundup of what went down in and around Potchefstroom:

💃 SADSA Wes-Rand Dance Championships: Gold for Potch Dancers! 🏆

What a weekend of rhythm, grace, and grit! At the SADSA Wes-Rand Danskampioenskappe, Elrise Pretorius dominated with a clean sweep of three first-place titles:

🥇 New Style (Bhangra | Slowdance | Hip-Hop | High-Energy)
🥇 Modern Classic (Contemporary | Jazz | Spanish)
🥇 Solo Latin (Cha-Cha | Jive | Samba | Paso Doble | Rumba)

Also on the podium was Shaney Van Zyl, finishing 3rd overall in the Female Youth Latin Section🔥And let’s not forget Shantey Van Zyl, who placed 5th and 6th across every category, a display of solid skill and dedication 💪

These dancers lit up the stage with passion and discipline. Potch is proud of every step you took! 🌟

🏑 Gimmies Dominate Against Volkies

It was a full day of rivalry and school pride as Gimmies and Volkies clashed on the sports field. Gimmies walked away with two massive 6–0 wins in both:

Girls’ Hockey 🏑

Boys’ Hockey 🏑

Netball brought plenty of excitement too, with Gimmies' 1st team narrowly losing 32–30, but picking up solid wins across the junior teams.💙 From teamwork to tough defence, Gimmies showed what GimmieGees really means.

🏉 Volkies Honour Their Rugby Stars at Capping Event

Before their Classic Clash showdown, Volkies hosted a capping ceremony to celebrate their 1st XV.

Guest speaker Jaco Kriel (ex-Springbok) left the team inspired with his words on sacrifice and brotherhood. It was a night of pride and reflection, and the perfect moment of unity before the big match. 🧢🔥

🏉 HTS Potch vs Boys’ High: The Classic Clash Is On!

The 2025 FNB Classic Clash between HTS Potchefstroom and Potchefstroom High School for Boys is set for Saturday, 31 May at HTS. Kick-off at 09:00.

This match is never just about rugby, it's about legacy, heart and bragging rights in Potch. Wear your colours, bring your voice, and be there from the first whistle! 💥🏉

⚽ Saints Secure SACSSA Gold – Again!

Saints’ u/19 girls’ team took gold for the third year in a row at the SACSSA tournament! In a tense all-Saints final, the B-team edged out the A-team, with Tshwanelo Mathang scoring the winning goal in extra time ⚽🙌

Coach Dikeledi praised the team for their belief and hunger to “change the narrative.”

The u/15 boys’ team also impressed, finishing 4th overall and conceding just one goal the entire tournament! 💙🔥

🎨 Redwood College Grade 1s Brighten the Week

Meanwhile, in the classrooms at Redwood college, the Grade 1s took on a colourful seasonal art project, building their very own cardboard umbrellas. ☔🎨The project sparked creativity and imagination, helping little learners explore shapes, colours and storytelling, and the results were as joyful as the smiles on their faces!
