The Potchefstroom Service Centre recently hosted its Welwees Basaar, drawing a large number of visitors and creating a vibrant atmosphere of community spirit. The event, which concluded at 13:00, was open to the public and featured a variety of stalls, services, and entertainment designed to highlight wellness, health, and the importance of supporting older members of the community.

Health and Wellness Services
Visitors benefited from free health screenings, including hearing tests provided by Healthy Hearing and visual screenings conducted by Vision Works. Additional services were offered by physiotherapists, dietetics students from North West University, and other wellness practitioners. The event also saw the involvement of organisations such as Senior Mind Brothers, focusing on cognitive health, and BODSA, which placed special emphasis on dementia and Alzheimer’s awareness.

Community Stalls and Food
Alongside health services, the basaar showcased a wide range of exhibitors. Stalls featured everything from handmade crafts and wellness products to information tables by local organisations. Food was another highlight, with traditional favourites like pancakes and basaar pudding enjoyed by attendees, alongside unique offerings such as fresh goat milk.

Purpose and Impact
The central aim of the Welwees Basaar was to give exhibitors exposure while creating an opportunity to give back to older residents in the community. By combining health awareness, local entrepreneurship, and social interaction, the event placed a strong focus on the well-being of senior citizens and promoted ongoing conversations about care and support for the elderly in Potchefstroom.
