While most of us in Potch are already planning soup evenings and stocking up on fluffy blankets for winter, just 10 minutes down the road, the team at Bafenyi Trust is planning something far more meaningful – and they need your help.
Bafenyi Trust, a local organisation based in the Ikageng and Promosa areas, is known for putting their hands and hearts where it matters most. This winter, they’ve kicked off a new project to help vulnerable families stay warm, fed, and cared for. And honestly – it’s the kind of project that makes you pause, dig through your sock drawer, and ask: “How many beanies does one really need?”

The Wishlist: Warm Heads, Feet, and Bellies
This year, Bafenyi’s Winter Project is aiming high – and rightfully so.
They need:
950 kid’s beanies and socks, in school colours nogal – black, grey, blue, maroon, or green.
350 adult socks and blankets to make sure no one is left out.
1,300 jars of soup – yep, you read right. Soup in a jar, and no, not the kind from the fancy aisle at Woolies.
So, What’s the Deal with the Soup Jars?
These aren’t your average glass jars collecting dust in the cupboard. Each one is packed with:
½ cup rice
½ cup lentils
½ cup soup mix
1 stock cube (wrapped, please!)
A packet of soup
Basically, one humble jar can feed a family of four. And let’s be honest, if there’s one thing that brings people together during winter, it’s warm food and a full belly.

The Deadline? It’s Closer Than You Think!
All donations – whether it’s socks, beanies, or soup jars – need to be in by 2 May 2025. That gives us just enough time to rally together and make it happen.
And if you're wondering where to drop off or who to call, speak to Nala at 082 611 5361. She’s your go-to person for all things warm and fuzzy this winter.
Why Bafenyi?
Because they’re not just handing out items – they’re building community. Their focus goes deeper than just charity. Bafenyi Trust works to uplift people spiritually and practically, believing that the love and message of Jesus Christ brings lasting change, no matter someone’s circumstances.
So ja, whether you’re a school teacher with spare classroom socks, a foodie with extra lentils, or just someone with a heart to help – this project is for you.
And if you’re not sure where to start? Maybe begin with your own cupboard. Chances are, there’s a beanie in there that hasn’t seen the light of day since the 2021 cold front. Contact Details If you’d like to be part of this heartwarming initiative, whether through donations or volunteering, please get in touch with Nala on 082 611 5361.
