Witrand Specialized Hospital recently concluded a pivotal three-day Facility Strategy Planning Lekgotla, held from 6–8 May 2026. The gathering served as a vital platform for leadership and stakeholders to align on a unified vision for the upcoming fiscal year, ensuring the facility remains a cornerstone of specialized healthcare in the North West Province.
Led by Dr. Isaac Wana, the Acting Hospital CEO, the sessions were anchored in a "patient-centered" philosophy. Dr. Wana underscored the importance of due diligence, tasking leadership with the challenge of delivering high-quality care while navigating the realities of a limited budget. The event saw active participation from Witrand’s Heads of Department, representatives from the North West Department of Health Head Office, and various labour unions, fostering an environment of collaborative governance.

Financial Accountability and Professional Development
The Lekgotla provided a transparent look into the facility's fiscal health. Mr. Israel Mojaki, Director of Finance, presented a detailed review of the 2025/2026 budget and audit outcomes, while outlining the strategic allocation of the 2026/2027 budget.
Beyond the numbers, the human element of healthcare was addressed by Mrs. Mariet Terblanche, Principal Psychologist. She delivered a motivational presentation on the "psychology of engagement," highlighting how interpersonal communication, time management, and individual character directly influence hospital-wide outcomes and patient recovery.
Strategic Priorities and Commission Outcomes
Five dedicated commissions were established to develop an implementable annual strategic plan. The key focus areas included:
Hospital Leadership & Management: Strengthening governance, accountability, and decision-making frameworks.
ICT & Information Management: Enhancing data accuracy for better audit outcomes and improving public access to information. Technical upgrades include a transition to Windows 11 and Outlook, alongside a phased CCTV implementation beginning with a pilot ward.
Human Resource Management & Development: Prioritizing staff wellness, labour peace, and the Employee Health Programme.
Finance & Infrastructure: Streamlining Supply Chain Management and infrastructure upkeep.
Quality Assurance: Working toward "Ideal Hospital" status by implementing strict norms and standards to reduce patient waiting times.

Community and Celebration: Honoring the "Backbone" of Healthcare
In addition to administrative planning, Witrand Specialized Hospital continues to foster community spirit and staff appreciation through upcoming events.
Mr. & Ms. Witrand 2026
On Thursday, 21 May 2026, the hospital hosted the Mr. & Ms. Witrand pageant at the Witrand Recreational Hall. Proudly organized by North-West University (NWU) and the Witrand Activity Centre, the event invited the public and employees to support the contestants for a nominal R5 donation. The evening served as a morale-boosting initiative, celebrating the diverse talents of the hospital community.

Upcoming Nurses Day Talent Show
The celebrations continue as the hospital prepares to honor its nursing staff, the "anchors" of the health system. A Nurses Day Talent Show is scheduled for 29 May 2026 at 12:00 in the Witrand Recreation Hall. Each ward has been encouraged to voluntarily prepare a performance item, showcasing the creativity and spirit of the nurses who serve as the backbone of the facility.

As Witrand Specialized Hospital moves forward with its new strategic priorities, the combination of rigorous administrative planning and a focus on staff well-being sets a positive trajectory for healthcare delivery in the region.
