The SaxbyTwins, Kyle and Wayde, may look identical, but their journey in the music world is unique. Although their musical talent was always there, they kept it hidden for most of their lives, afraid of how others might react. However, since they shared their skills with the world five years ago, their song Falling For You went viral, gaining hundreds of thousands of streams. Image : Facebook Saxby Twins From Bonfire to Instagram Fame It all started at a bonfire party in 2017 when a passerby heard them sing and said, “That’s so cool, you guys are twins and you both can sing.” That was the push they needed. The next day, they created an Instagram account to share their music. Five years later, they have a verified account with nearly 10,000 followers, and on TikTok, they have over 25,500 fans. Their Falling For You dance trend exploded with more than 4,300 videos on the platform. In December 2021, it even reached number one on Spotify’s Viral Top 50 Chart in South Africa. Balancing Music and Studies Kyle and Wayde live in Stellenbosch with six of their friends, trying to balance their studies and music careers. It’s not always easy, but they say they just go with the flow and trust that things will work out. They remain calm under pressure and see their Universal Music Group contract as a natural step forward. Family, Sports, and Hidden Talents Music has always been part of their lives – their mother is a piano teacher, who introduced them to music at an early age. Their father, on the other hand, is a huge sports fanatic who pushed them into cricket and rugby. In fact, their initial dream was to become professional cricketers, and they even played provincial cricket in Johannesburg. But by the time they turned 19, music had taken over as their top priority. From Sports Stars to Music Icons At school, they were known as the sporty guys, which held them back from publicly embracing their singing talent. They thought people would find it weird if they sang. But once they took the leap, they were happier than ever. Their friend, Hayden Byrne, says they live for music: “Wayde has told me at least 20 times that if he could perform on stage every day, he would.” They love writing down their dreams and sticking them on their walls. Their current goals? One million streams, a nationwide tour, and becoming the biggest pop act in the country. What’s Next? Elke nou en dan kan jy sien die manne is weer terug op die perseel in die Elgin Vallei terwyl hulle met glimlagte terugdink aan hul onvergeetlike ervaring.  Foto (Potch Gazette): Elri Bekker en Juan-Louis Naudé Die Potch Gazette het die voorreg gehad om met Juan-Louis Naudé en Elri Bekker te gesels oor hul ervaring op die KykNet televisie reeks, Klein Paradys, en wat hulle van dié reeks saam met hulle sal neem.  Waar dit alles begin het Elri se vrou het die advertensie van Klein Paradys gesien en hom aangemoedig om in te skryf. Die Bekkers volg die televisie reeks, The Block Australia en toe hulle besef dat hiérdie nuwe reeks min of meer dieselfde konsep volg as The Block, het hulle dadelik belang gestel. “My eerste keuse was my vrou, maar ons het twee klein kinders by die huis, so dit sou nie gewerk het nie. So, my tweede eerste keuse was Juan-Louis”, het Elri laggend genoem. Elri en Juan-Louis is al vir ses jaar lank huisvriende en hiérdie is die eerste regruk-projek wat hulle saam aanpak; vorige projekte het hulle saam met hulle vrouens aangepak.  Foto (KykNet): Die pelle verduidelik hulle ontwerp aan die beoordelaars Die besluit om in te skryf vir hierdie kompetisie vorm deel van Elri se werk en dit is ook ‘n passie van hom as argitek. Lank voor die kompetisie, het die pelle van Potch alreeds fisiese werk begin doen en begin bou, so die grondslag was daar. “Ons altwee hou van uitdagings en avonture, so dit is iets heeltemal anders”, het Juan-Louis op sy beurt genoem. Die vriende het ‘n sprong van geloof geneem, ingeskryf en na ‘n streng keuringsproses, is hulle as een van die ses duos gekies om aan die reeks deel te neem.  Die duur van die projek Die hele projek het ‘n maand en ‘n week geneem, insluitend bou en produksie dae. In totaal was daar twee en twintig konstruksie dae waar die duos skouer aan die wiel gesit het en volstoom gewerk het. Hulle was drie dae op die terrein voordat hulle amptelik begin het met produksie. Dit is tydens hierdie drie dae waar hulle gereeld veiligheidsinligtingsessies bygewoon het asook ‘n inleiding tot wat hierdie program en projek presies gaan behels.  Foto (KykNet): Die manne in die werkswinkel Alhoewel elke dag anders gelyk het, was daar min of meer ‘n roetine. Hulle het lekker vroeg opgestaan in die oggend, ‘n skietlys gemaak van alles wat die dag gedoen moet word en dan aan die werk gespring. Ondanks die klein jakkalsies wat kop uitgesteek het, kon hulle ten minste een of twee take elke dag op hul lysie voltooi. Die dae voor elke fase se beoordeling het hierdie manne deurnag - hulle is ook die enigste duo wat hierdie benadering gevolg het. Die dae ná die beoordeling (dag een van die nuwe fase) “was ons eintlik nowhere, ons het nie ge-feature nie”, het Elri genoem. Daardie dae was gebruik om bestellings te plaas en aan die ontwerp van die mikro-eenheid te werk, bloot omdat hulle fisies te uitgeput was na die vorige dag (en nag).  Foto (KykNet): Die slaapkamer wat die beoordelaars uitgeboul het Uitdagings in alle vorme Dit is vanselfsprekend dat só tipe projek uitdagend is, omdat dit nog nie voorheen gedoen is nie, maar die fisiese en logistieke deel was nie noodwendig die moeilikste nie. Juan-Louis noem dat dit emosioneel uitdagend was om weg te wees van hulle gesinne af. Hy moes sy baba dogtertjie agter los en in die tyd wat hy weg was, het sy begin kruip en glimlag. Elri het ook ‘n paar mylpale van sy twee seuntjies misgeloop - die oudste het sy vierde verjaarsdag gevier en die jongste het begin loop tydens sy afwesigheid. Dít was vir beide mans die uitdagendste deel van die hele ervaring - om hulle geliefdes agter te laat vir so lank. Hierdie gesinsgeoriënteerde vriende se prioriteite word selfs deurgetrek na hulle besighede en hulle maak ‘n punt daarvan om tyd te maak vir hulle mense.  Foto (KykNet): Harde, fisiese werk is aan die orde van elke dag “Dit was eers emosioneel uitdagend en toe raak dit fisies moeilik.” Elri lig uit dat dit veral tydens die dek fase was waar die fisiese moegheid regtig ingeskop het. “Ons staan nie terug vir [harde] werk nie, maar jou hande het naderhand nie meer ‘n greep nie en jy gee maar tree vir tree”. Tydens die laaste aand was die krag vir drie ure af en kon hulle niks doen tydens daardie drie ure nie - boonop het dit nog gereën ook!  ‘n Hoogtepunt Die heel eerste dag het hulle besef dat dit nie speletjies gaan wees nie; dit is ernstige sake en dat al die duos een doel voor oë het. Die eerste mini-kompetisie wat hulle gewen het, het vir hulle uitgestaan en het so bietjie woema verskaf. Dit is ook tydens hierdie klein kompetisies regdeur die program dat hulle geleer het om nie hulself, hul boustyl óf vaardighede hoef te vergelyk met enige ander spanne nie. Die laaste dag staan ook vir hulle uit as ‘n hoogtepunt. “Dit was ‘n baie emosionele ding om te besef dit is nou klaar, ons kan nou rus”, het Juan-Louis gesê.  Foto (KykNet): Elri en Juan-Louis wen die slaapkamer fase Wat is persoonlike spasie? Met alreeds beperkte plek binne die eenhede, het elke duo boonop ‘n aangewese kameraman en inhoudskepper gehad wat in en om die eenheid saam met die spanne moes beweeg en afneem, “so jy moes heeltyd in ag neem waar hulle is en wat jy doen.” Hulle het die duos riglyne gegee van hoe om te staan of ‘n taak te doen sodat hulle nie die heeltyd die spanne se rûe afneem nie. “Ons was baie in sync met mekaar”, het Juan-Louis op ‘n kol genoem. Hulle het geweet wat gedoen moes word en het besluit om hulle koppe af te hou en aanhou hard werk. Hulle het vroeg-vroeg gesien dit gaan meer voordelig wees om dubbel-doelig te werk as wat beide aan een taak werk. Juan-Louis glo dat dit een van die faktore is wat bygedra het tot die feit dat hy en Elri minimale konflik en drama gehad het.  Foto (KykNet): Intak is die enigste eenheid wat as 'n familie eenheid ingerig is met dié ekstra bed Die emosies loop hoog Die manne hou nie van konflik nie en die tye wat die emosies wel hoog geloop het, het hulle elkeen ‘n oomblik geneem en net hul afsonderlike take in stilte afgehandel tot hulle “oor dit” is. “Ons het aan die begin mekaar uitsorteer en tussendeur was dit net moegheid en krapperigheid”, het Elri glimlaggend genoem. Hulle het nooit persoonlik geraak of ‘n aanmerking persoonlik opgeneem nie en die feit dat hulle nie familie is, soos die res van die duos, het baie gehelp om die humeurvlakke in toom te hou. Hulle het geweet hoekom hulle daar was en het dáárdie doel voor oë gehou deur die hele proses.  Dis nie vir elke Jan Rap en sy maat nie, maar wel 'n belewenis Só ‘n projek is nie vir almal nie, alhoewel daar baie mense is wat aanklank daarby sal vind. Indien jy as ‘n individu of paartjie wil groei in verskillende fasette, is só ‘n projek of iets soortgelyk iets wat Juan-Louis en Elri sal aanbeveel. Die kreatiewe vryheid is beslis iets wat vir hulle uitgestaan het, omdat dit hulle die geleentheid gegun het om hulle unieke stempel op die eenheid af te druk. Hulle albei stem saam dat hulle sonder twyfel weer ‘n soortgelyke projek sal aanpak, maar “net as ons ons gesinne nader kan hou”, het beide beaam. Foto (KykNet): Gate word gegrou vir die uitspan area se dek Die Duos Die duos se persoonlikhede is almal uiteenlopend en die ouens het baie goed oor die weg gekom met die res van die deelnemers. Elri noem dat daar maar eintlik min tyd was vir sosialiseer, omdat almal so taakgedrewe was. Juan-Louis het dit mooi opgesom toe hy noem dat almal in hulle eie boksies was en elke span het slegs een doel voor oë gehad én gehou - om te wen! Daar was darem kort tydjies tussen-in vir die deelnemers om mekaar te leer ken wanneer hulle in die kombuis saam geëet het of ‘n koppie koffie saam geniet het. Gaan loer gerus na die res van die duos hier. Lesse geleer Die grootste les wat hulle tydens hierdie hele proses geleer het, is die selfvertroue om te weet dat dít wat onmoontlik lyk, wel gedoen kan word. Selfs al het die vervaardigers en konstruksiespanne ná die eerste fase (die badkamer fase) gedink dat hierdie reeks ‘n totale flop gaan wees, het al die duos op die ou end van die dag klaar gekry met hulle mikro-eenhede. Die feit dat ses spanne ses leë ‘doppe’ omskep het in vyfster akkommodasie, is sowaar indrukwekkend en sit nie in elke persoon se broek nie! Juan-Louis en Elri weet nou, na hierdie hele ervaring, waarlik wie hulle is in terme van styl, werk en wat hulle kan bereik - en ook waartoe hulle in staat is. “Dit is die grootste groei.”  Foto (KykNet): Dit is hierdie manne wat die veilig idee geloods het. Hier staan hulle saam met Robbie Kruse, die aanbieder van Klein Paradys Hul lewens na Klein Paradys Elri se maatskappy, A-Line Studio, is veelsydig en in November 2024, voordat die reeks geloods is, het Elri nog ‘n besigheid gestig: een wat spesialiseer in mikro-eenhede.
