On multiple occasions, dedicated ward councillors have made sincere attempts to serve the community, yet their efforts fall on deaf ears at the municipal level. This lack of response reflects a grim reality: the council seems more interested in maintaining the status quo than taking action to improve residents' quality of life. Basic Service Delivery, Not Politics Ironically, it is not political loyalty that has been lost here; the growing resentment is directly related to the repeated failures of basic service delivery, alongside corruption and mismanagement. From the open manholes that have become safety hazards, to water pipes that continue to leak despite being reported for months—the daily grind of trying to get basic services fixed is exhausting the community. Social media groups are filled with residents reporting broken infrastructure, pleading for action, only to be met with apathy. As one resident put it, "How can sewage spillages be ignored? It is a basic human right to be protected against this. Yet our municipality seems to have no regard for these rights." This was intended to streamline communication and improve efficiency, but it was ignored by municipal management. The opportunity to work collaboratively to address these challenges was left unanswered, a symbol of the broader disconnection between the council and the people they are supposed to serve. Bright Spots Despite the council's continued inaction, there are bright spots among the ward councillors and community leaders who remain committed to their work. These individuals dedicate countless hours to pushing for better service, attending council meetings, and advocating for residents. However, without the support of the larger municipal structure, their hard work often goes unrewarded, and their efforts to create meaningful change remain in vain. Daar was sedert gisteraand (9 Oktober) geen water by sommige Potchefstroom wyke. Foto: The Go-To Guy Creations Kommunikasie vanaf die JB Marks Munisipaliteit ontvang, het inwoners ingelig dat dié tekort aan water is as gevolg van 'n 400mm asbes pyp, wat water aan die Vyfhoek Reservoir verskaf, gebars het. Hiérdie pyp, wat in die dam gebars het, is ongelukkig diep ondergrond en as gevolg van die diepte en grootte van die dam, is die munisipaliteit nie in staat om die nodige herstelwerk gedurende die aand te doen nie. Daar is intussen aan die pype begin werk. Volgens Anné van Onselen, DA Raadslid vir Wyk 23, is daar twee pyplyne wat water na die reservoir voer, maar ongelukkig is daar nie deurentyd met die kleiner lyn water na die reservoir toe gepomp nie. Sy het ook met inwoners meegedeel dat die reservoir nou heeltemal leeg is en dat die munisipaliteit beoog om die probleem hopelik teen vanaand (10 Oktober) opgelos te hê. "Ek was nou al deur 'n paar JBM waterkrisisse en as ek my persoonlike opinie moet gee: berei eerder voor om (hopelik) teen môre aand weer water te begin kry", het Anné gisteraand op 'n Wykgroep laat weet. Die wyke wat geaffekteer is deur hierdie probleem Wyk 3 Tuscany, De Land , Helderzicht, Dagbreek, Hillside, Vyfhoek, Saddlebrook, Bailliepark Wyk 23 Mooivalleipark, Van der Hoffpark, Ou Bailliepark Wyk 24 Grimbeekpark In die tussentyd is daar met die munisipaliteit gereël om watertenks uit te stuur en daar is ook reeds met privaat maatskappye kontak gemaak om te vra vir hulp. Afleweringspunte sal deurgegee word op die wyke se afsonderlike WhatsApp groepe. Inwoners word gemaan om geysers af te sit en in gedagte te hou dat die hoogliggende wyke laaste water sal kry.
