Potchefstroom’s aspiring chefs and hospitality enthusiasts have a date to mark in their calendars. Roots Academy has announced it will host an Open Day on 9 May, offering a look behind the scenes of its culinary and hospitality training programmes.
The event is designed for matriculants, career-changers, and anyone with a passion for the service industry. It provides a first-hand look at the campus facilities where students sharpen their skills in professional environments.

Exploring the Campus
Rather than just reading a brochure, visitors will be able to walk through the kitchens and training areas to see the academy in action. Lecturers will be on hand to discuss the curriculum and the realities of working in a high-pressure kitchen or managing large-scale events.
Current students will also be present, giving prospective applicants a chance to hear honest feedback about the workload and the hands-on experience gained during their studies.
Qualifications on Offer
The academy currently focuses on Highfield-accredited diplomas, which are recognised internationally. The programmes highlighted for the upcoming intake include:
Hospitality: A Level 2 Diploma covering the essentials of the service industry.
Professional Cookery: A Level 3 Diploma for those aiming for a career as a professional chef.
Pastry and Bakery: A specialised Level 3 Diploma in Patisserie, Confectionery, and Bakery.
Applications for 2027
While the Open Day takes place this May, the academy is already looking toward the future. Applications for the 2027 intake are officially open, with the closing date set for 31 January 2027.
For those interested in attending the Open Day, the academy has requested that guests RSVP via email to ensure they can accommodate everyone comfortably.
